Rebel Roundup - Friday, June 28, 2013

Let's kick off your weekend with some links, shall we?

USA TODAY Sports

Marshall Henderson of Mississippi Rebels reprimanded for 'gesture' | ESPN
What in the name of draconian nonsense is the NCAA up to this time? Reprimanding a basketball player for a relatively minor offense - he may or may not have flipped off a fan after the Rebel loss to LaSalle in the NCAA tournament, as if that's all that uncommon or terrible - made three months ago? Way to send a message y'all. I'm not sure what exactly it is that you do around here, but whatever, have fun.

Ole Miss releases 2013-2014 non-conference hoops schedule | Gulflive.com
So we all complained about our weak-ass basketball schedule last year, so now we've got these games coming up os our out of conference opponents this season (among many other games against cupcakes, because you've still gotta have some of those):

  • Nov. 29 Georgia Tech (Barclays Center Classic)
  • Nov. 30 Penn State/St. John's (Barclays Center Classic)
  • Dec. 5 at Kansas State
  • Dec. 8 Oregon
  • Dec. 14 Middle Tennessee
  • Dec. 30 at Western Kentucky
  • Jan. 3 Dayton

Oregon, Kansas State, Western Kentucky, and MTSU all made the NCAA tournament last year, so they're quality enough programs for a good out of conference slate.

Turner Named 2013 Johnny Bench Award Winner | OleMissSports.com
Stuart Turner, now a member of the Minnesota Twins organization, received the Johnny Bench award for the best college catcher in NCAA baseball. Both a defensive stalwart and a force at the plate, Turner endeared himself most to Rebel fans with his arm, as he threw out 51% of attempted steals at second this year.

Kendrick Doss Commits to Rebs | Hudl (Link to Highlights)
Kendrick Doss is a 6'2", 210 pound quarterback out of Florence, AL high school, and the newest member of the Ole Miss Rebel 2014 recruiting class. Listed as a three-star prospect, Doss had offers from Auburn and Tennessee.
