Ole Miss injury report: Robert Nkemdiche won't play against Idaho

The former No. 1 recruit will miss his second consecutive game with a hamstring injury and is one of three defensive ends that have been ruled out for Saturday.

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

Unlike the NFL, college football teams don't post official injury updates heading into game day every week, making condensed injury reports difficult to come by, particularly for a relatively smaller market team like Ole Miss. Well, the Cup is here to change that. Using a particularly nifty website and drawing sources from Twitter, I'll be compiling an injury list the best I can every Friday.

I'll update this as news drifts in late Friday and Saturday. If you see or hear anything that hasn't been included, help me out and mention it in the comments section (make sure to post a link, please!). I'm sure I'll miss something here and there, so let's crowdsource this thing and get it right.

Three significant contributors have been ruled out at the defensive end position for Ole Miss's game against Idaho this Saturday: Robert Nkemdiche, Carlos Thompson and C.J. Johnson, the latter of which has been lost for the year. The defensive front overcame those injuries in a valiant effort against LSU last Saturday, led by senior end Cameron Whigham's SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week performance. So it makes perfect since that Whigham is now questionable for the Idaho game.

There is some good news on the injury front, though. Jeff Scott has improved enough to draw speculation of a return on Saturday, though you would have to think Freeze and Co. won't risk re-injuring him against a cupcake. The best news concerns Serderius Bryant, who is probable for Saturday after being carried off the field on a stretcher two weeks ago against Texas A&M.

With a less than formidable opponent this Saturday and a bye the next, the Rebels should have ample time to get healthy heading into their Nov. 9 home game against Arkansas.

Here's my best compilation of a complete injury list:

Probable

LB Serderius Bryant (concussion) - After a scary injury against A&M, it seems concussion tests went well this week, and Bryant is likely to see the field Saturday.

DT Issac Gross (shoulder) - Had three tackles and a huge sack against LSU. Shouldn't be limited against Idaho.

LB Denzel Nkemdiche (ankle) - Looked back at full strength with seven tackles against LSU and should be good to go.

Questionable

CB Senquez Golson (suspension) - Was back at practice this week after missing LSU due to a violation of team rules. Freeze has not made a decision on whether he'll play.

DB Mike Hilton (hamstring) - Did not play against LSU and is questionable for Saturday.

LB Keith Lewis (undisclosed) - Has been limited in practice, but Freeze said Monday he expects him to play.

RB Jeff Scott (thigh) - Scott thinks he'll be back on the field after missing LSU with a bruised thigh, but no official decision has been made.

DE Cameron Whigham (undisclosed) - He's questionable after being named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Out

DE Carlos Thompson (undisclosed) - Freeze has confirmed he'll sit against Idaho.

DE Robert Nkemdiche (hamstring) - Missed LSU last week and a strained hamstring could keep him out another week or two.

Out for season

TE Evan Engram (ankle) - Foot/ankle injury suffered against LSU requires season-ending surgery.

DE C.J. Johnson (leg)

TE Christian Morgan (knee)

OT Aaron Morris (knee)
