Ole Miss vs. Arkansas Baseball OPEN THREAD

Rcr-baseball_medium

I know y'all are just DYING to see Gavin Degraw for free in the Grove, but don't forget there's a pretty important baseball series going on this weekend as well. Arkansas is 8-7 in the SEC, whereas our Rebels are 7-8. If Ole Miss is the winner of this series they will, at the very worst, have a .500 record and will supplant Arkansas for 2nd in the SEC West behind LSU.

On offense, Arkansas is led by Dominic Ficochelli (.343 AVG, 25 RBI), Matt Reynolds (.323, 26), and Tim Carver (.336, 19) on offense. But the Hogs' bread and butter is their pitching staff which, at the halfway point of SEC play, has the best team ERA in the conference (2.71). The probable pitching matchups are...

FRIDAY: Righty sophomore Brandon Moore (3-0, 0.95) VS righty sophomore Bobby Wahl (5-0, 2.13)

SATURDAY: Righty sophomore Ryne Stanek (6-1, 2.41) VS righty sophomore Mike Mayers (3-2, 4.15)

SUNDAY: Righty senior DJ Baxendale (6-2, 3.88) VS TBD

That's right, RJ Hively's being placed in the bullpen it seems. Who will come out on Sunday vs. Arkansas? Could it be Hively? Or what about Hawtin Buchanan? Sam Smith is another possible option. It should certainly be an interesting thing to look out for.

But, really, the most intriguing element of this series is the fact that this guy is now a coach at Arkansas. As I said earlier, I expect the lot of y'all to do some work on him. ("Hey, Brian, how's that elbow doing?" "Hey, Brian, did you ever get that Emmy?" "Hey, Brian, you're an ass." And so on.)
