Do not give up on this Rebel baseball team just yet. Behind the reliable arm of closer Jake Morgan and a surprisingly potent offensive output on the weekend, the Mike Bianco's Ole Miss baseball Rebels have taken an SEC series from the defending College World Series champions, marking the first SEC series loss for the Gamecocks this season.

The offensive output this weekend was beyond surprising. South Carolina's arms are some of the best in the conference this year, whereas the Rebel bats have been disappointing, to put it diplomatically. Saturday's 10-2 victory shocked pretty much anyone who has followed Rebel baseball this season, and today's 7-6 walk off victory was a thrilling reminder of this squad's potential.

The game ball, if we're going to give out little league awards, goes to Jake Morgan. Recovering from an injury sustained not too long after recovering from Tommy John's surgery, the star closer delivered 2.1 incredible innings of relief, giving up only two hits and striking out one. He got the run support he needed to bring his record to 3-0 on the year.

I'm impressed with this team's resilience this weekend. They're playing desperate baseball right now, sitting on the cusp of a Hoover appearance. But, with the meatiest part of the schedule in the rear view mirror, this squad could be in decent positioning for the SEC Baseball Tournament.

Hotty Toddy. We'll have more on this as well as our upcoming baseball matches this week.
