Rebels head to Gainesville (open thread)

New, 12 comments

In last weekend's action, our Rebels led at some point in all three games but only on one. The midweek stint with UAPB was cancelled, and we head to Florida 5-5 in our last ten games. The Florida Gators are 7-3 in their last 10 games and come into the weekend after sweeping Alabama in their last SEC series.

I really hope our Rebels (9-9) can grab one on the road this weekend. This is an excellent Florida (14-4) team that has swept three of their six SEC opponents on the season. I hope we can get one on the road, even though that will be difficult to do. We need to get at least one to match what Mississippi State, our competitor for #8 seed in Hoover, did against the Gators.

The Gators bat .315 as a team and are led at the plate by Josh Adams with a .369. Preston Tucker brings power to the plate with 9 homers on the year. Their pitching staff has a 2.69 ERA. Steven Rodriguez is one of the closing options for the Gators, and he has 2 saves and a 1.61 ERA.

The beloved Rebels come into the series batting .284 overall, but we bat .292 in conference play. Tanner Mathis is a .380 hitter in SEC play, and our power threats seem to be Alex Yarbrough and Matt Smith as they both have 4 hrs a piece in SEC play. Our pitching staff 3.89 ERA overall but a 5.10 in the SEC. Bobby Wahl has moved into the closing role and has 3 saves and a 4.91 ERA (sec stats).
