Guard Darone Bailey Commits to Ole Miss

Sweet soundtrack, Darone.

Hugh Freeze is fighting an uphill battle on the recruiting trail, but dividends are beginning to pay off for the new Rebel coach. Offensive Guard Darone Bailey out of Coahoma County Community College committed to the Rebel staff earlier this week, marking the 11th commitment on the season.

Bailey's as a 6'6", 315 pound guard by Rivals. Per Scout, he was recruited by Mississippi State out of Cleveland, Mississippi's East Side high school as an offensive tackle but did not sign with the Bulldogs or any division one program. Instead he attended community college to, per our best guesses, get his academics in shape so that he would be able to attend a proper university.

This year, he was recruited most heavily by Kentucky and was a strong lean to the Wildcats before being courted by his home state Rebels. Assuming everything is in order, he will have his grades in from Coahoma and be able to enroll at Ole Miss this spring semester, giving him a nice jump start on practice and weight training. We at the Cup aren't really certain how much of an impact he wil make, especially early, but large offensive linemen are guys who you can almost not have too many of. We're perilously thin at a lot of places on the roster, including offensive tackle, so here's to hoping that Bailey can properly contribute to whatever future success we would like to have.
