Kirby Smart In Running For Ole Miss Head Coach | SBNation.com
Looks like we broke the internet yesterday. We'll post more on this if need be, but we're not ready to "officially" - as "official" as we can be, I guess - report anything. We're just passing along what we've heard (from people we trust) with the caveat and understanding that nothing is set in any sort of stone. We'll let you know of whatever we hear both here and on Twitter.
Nick Saban says Kirby Smart is Ready | Hugh
Nick Saban on Kirby Smart:
Leadership is really an important part of being a head of anything, a business or whatever it is, and I think Kirby is a great leader … You have to have leadership qualities and the ability to confront and demand people do things the right way and you have to gain their respect to do it. He’s done a fantastic job of that.
Coach Saban has said that no one has called him to ask for permission to speak with Coach Smart regarding his hiring.
Ole Miss search committee meets with football team | Hattiesburg American
What came of this? Nothing. Archie Manning and Mike Glenn met with the team to let them know that the process to hire a new coach is underway and that the firing of Houston Nutt shouldn't discourage them from continuing their workouts and schoolwork. Did you expect something more out of this?
Ole Miss' pursuit of head football coach hits high gear | The Commercial Appeal
According to Ron Higgins, Manning plans on having his recommendation to Chancellor Jones in the next two-and-a-half weeks. To be noted is that interviews are still ongoing, so new developments are sure to come up.
Fedora mum on Ole Miss opening | The Clarion-Ledger
Of course, don't be surprised if everything we've ever said about any of this is wrong, we end up hiring Larry Fedora, and the lot of us throw a collective conniption fit over another classic WAOM moment. I have faith that such won't happen, but there's always that nagging feeling that we will somehow do the most predictable, underwhelming thing with a hire we've all convinced ourselves needs to be splashy and exciting.
Rebels Visit DePaul For Big East/SEC Challenge Thursday | OleMissSports.com
We're lucky to have drawn what is perhaps the worst team in the Big East for the SEC/Big East Challenge. DePaul, though, ain't bad. Their one loss on the season was a one-point decision against Minnesota in the Old Spice Classic tournament, which came right before victories over Texas Tech and Arizona State, meaning that they're only a few games shy of matching and then beating their abysmal win total from last season (7). This is, per all observers, an improved Blue Demons squad.
