Rebel Roundup - 6/7/10

That Wasn't Fun
Attending the regional was fun. Watching our Rebels lose wasn't. Apologies on BWE's behalf for not putting up a St. John's thread yesterday. He was either too angry or absent minded (or, hell, both could be possible) to do so. But, really, there wasn't much to say after that UVA loss anyway.

Photo essay to come soon. I'm not kidding. I mean this in the "Ghost took pictures and didn't lose his camera a la  Ivory Tory" kind of way.

Huge first lifts St. John's past Ole Miss 20-16 | The Associated Press
And people kept asking us all weekend why we threw Pom against them in game one. You got your reason yesterday evening, folks: the Red Storm can swing the damn bat.

MSU, Ole Miss benefit from league's $209M haul | The Clarion-Ledger
One fifth of a billion dollars: that's how much money college football in the South makes in profit. I can't even imagine what the revenues look like. So, tickets, merchandise, ESPN, and bowl payouts along with a league which shares revenues entirely evenly means more cash for everyone and, ideally, a level playing field (yeah right). As conferences go, the rich keep getting richer.

As an aside, I wonder what we're going to use the money for? Perhaps a repainting of the gigantic football helmet on the western wall of Vaught-Hemingway? Or how about a Michael Oher/Leigh Anne Tuohy statue? Or more Nutt sombreros for everybody on the athletics staff? I dunno, just brainstorming here.

Rebels Honored In Birmingham News SEC Edition | OleMissSports.com
On the News' Preseason All-SEC teams, Jerrell Powe was chosen to the first team, while Kentrell Lockett and Johnny Brown were honored on the second team. Jesse Grandy was also mentioned as a return-specialist 'n' shit. Once again, the nation's most entertaining student-athlete-Twitterer and the SEC's most notorious academic liability earn preseason accolades.
