The Swayze Bracket: (4) Drew Pomeranz v. (5) Seth Smith

As his season drew to a close, Pomeranz only further solidified his place as a great Rebel, becoming the highest-drafter baseball player in program history and racking up post-season awards including SEC Pitcher of the Year. The only complaint we've ever had about Pom around here is that allegedly he followed the letter and spirit of the first law of the Cup: drink without abandon.

Meanwhile, Seth Smith is one of only two Rebels to play in the World Series in this decade (the other being, of course, David Dellucci on the 2001 Diamondbacks squad). He has played four seasons for the Rockies and has appeared in 54 of 63 games so far this year, batting .262. Smith and Stephen Head led the Rebels to their first of a string of selections as regional host sites in 2004.
