Going, Going, Gone: Ole Miss Turns UK into MILDcats

The Ole Miss baseball team managed to capture the series in Lexington this past weekend against Kentucky, winning two of the three games in the series.

As previously reported, Drew Pomeranz won SEC Pitcher of the week for a masterful performance on Friday, David Goforth nearly spoiled the weekend for the Rebels on Saturday and Kentucky figured something out on Sunday.

For more in-depth coverage, follow the jump.

Friday: Junior LHP Drew Pomeranz had a no-no going into the fifth inning. He was absolutely baffling UK hitters, striking out nine batters in six innings of work. The Rebels scored three runs in the fourth, which was all they needed for the win, however, felt it was in their best interest to dogpile UK for being a bunch of douchebags (remember when they would yell, "WHOOO" throughout the entire damn game?). Rebels win 9-0 behind a Taylor Hashman solo shot and RBI from just about everyone else on the team.

Saturday: Senior RHP Aaron Barrett nearly had his fifth win of the season given away by former master of the mound David Goforth. Last year, Goforth was a reliable option out of the bullpen, but he gave up a three run shot in the bottom of the eighth to close a comfortable 7-3 lead to a harrowing 7-6 lead. Brett Huber earned his first save by slamming the door shut on a rally in the ninth. Taylor Hightower and Miles Hamblin both notched two RBI games in the 7-6 win. Neither Hightower nor Hamblin got considerable playing time last season and have been delightfully productive this year.

Sunday: And so, the floodgates opened. Matt Tracy was chased out after 4.2 IP, 5 ER, 6 H, 3K, 3BB. Not the kind of line you want to see from a weekend starter in SEC play. Granted, Tracy went from midweek starter and weekend reliever to Sunday starter in about two weeks. Sundays are usually higher scoring games, so we're just looking for someone to give us a chance in the game. Barrett and Pomeranz are both pitching very well so far, so the Sunday starter really can be a little bit of a project right now. Trent Rothlin pitched three perfect innings to close out a 12-3 loss where Braden Kapteyn exploded for UK, going 3 for 5 with 6 RBI. Alex Yarbrough, Tim Ferguson and Zach Miller all notched RBI in the game. Miller continues to lead the team with 22 RBI on the season.

On Deck: USM in Jackson(myself, Juco and some Cuppers are planning to be in attendance, look for a moderately chubby guy with a blue polo jacket if you want to buy us drinks, lulz)
