Tuesday Question - 10/5/10

Generally, we are the "authors" of "content" around here - "here" being a blog and not a message board. Recognize, we do, that you've come here not to contribute, but to consume. Nevertheless, there is the sporadic occasion where, either for our benefit or for to exercise the thinkifiers of the masses, we ask you a question. Today's question is ....

Uhhh ... what exactly am I supposed to do this weekend?

After four home games and a road trip to New Orleans, Rebel fans have been some hard-going, football-watching fools.  The heartiest among us - like Mr. and Mrs. One Man to Beat - made all five games.  That's pretty hardcore, considering September was about the most gut-wrenching month of Ole Miss football since the Steve Sloan or, maybe even, Billy Kinard era.  But here we are at the bye week with, exactly, zero defensive backs to spare.  Seriously, this is about as opportune as bye weeks come, giving our banged-up defense two weeks to heal up before a road trip to Alabama.

But what am I going to do this weekend?

I am going to watch high school football and go to the camp.  You know, there are more loves than just Ole Miss football.  If you're a single guy like me, you don't yet have a wife and kids to dote upon (but, if you do, maybe make them a nice hearty pot of potato and asparagus soup).  So, I am going to hit up some old mainstays.  The Greene County Wildcats are 1-1 in division play going into Friday night's game at undefeated Purvis.  And on Saturday, there'll be fields that need a-planting and bunks that need a-cleaning.  I'm never there for Opening Day because we're always playing in Oxford or Baton Rouge then (just another reason why that game needs to be on Halloween), but it's important to me, as I grow older, to put more work into preparing things for the upcoming season.

The leaves are beginning to change, and, today, I wore a sweater vest to work.  That let's me know that we're getting into a different part of football season.  Right now, it's time to catch our breath and focus on something a little different.

So, what are you doing this weekend?
