Basham goes 3-for-5 in Rebel victory

The title might have reminded you more of a fiction novel, but it is true.  The Rebels "battled" tonight and came up big behind 4 Arkansas errors.  The rest is after the jump..

Gosh, I love this pic.... No really, I do.

Since I wasn't able to follow the game very well, I cannot provide an in depth analysis of what happened.  However, the big inning came in the fifth when the Rebels scored five runs.  It was aided by Razorback errors of epic proportions.  Nonetheless, we found the ability to score runs and capitalize on the other teams mistakes.

Drew Pomeranz got roughed up a bit as he went 5.2 innings and allowed five runs.  However, he had 10 strikeouts!  Barrett came in and got a key strikeout to end the sixth.  Goforth and Morgan went the rest of the way and only allowed one hit over the final three innings.

With the win, the Rebels are tied for second place in the SEC with Florida at 18 SEC wins.  State choked away their game against LSU and lost 5-4, so LSU has sole possession of first place at 19 wins.  With a win tomorrow, they would clinch the overall SEC title.

IF the Rebels win one of the next two, they set an Ole Miss record for SEC wins.  The previous high for the Rebels was 18 in both 2004 and 2005.

The game will begin at 6:35 tomorrow as the Rebels send team wins leader Brett Buckvich to the mound.  He is 8-2 with a 4.31 ERA.  The Razorbacks will send Sophomore RHP Brett Eibner (4-4, 4.25 ERA) to the mound.  Eibner has had some gems this year, but so has Buk (cough, cough).  A win would probably clinch a regional host!
