We're Better Than This. Let's Keep It That Way.
[ED: Frontpag'd. Definitely worth a read and definitely something to think about.]
I don't like to post a lot of negative stuff here on the Cup. I always feel that people (read: other fans) look at negative comments on our blogs, message boards, and the like as fodder to point at how we bicker amongst each other and have such a "fractured fanbase". While I understand the reasons for some negativity around this program right now, I make a personal point of trying not to put too many negative comments, fanshots, or posts for all of the college sports world to see. If I get that mad, I usually sit down, make a drink, and find some other way to vent. Other people seem to vent in a different way.
That being said, I will not link the video that inspired me to write this fanpost. I would rather the assholes that made it not get any more views than they already have. I will, however, describe it and give you the information you need to find it if you would like to see it for yourself.

Ole Miss Rebels vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Game Preview and Open Thread
The rivalry heats up again tonight, as the TSFWCDAO Bullfrauds' Mississippi State Bulldogs' will attempt to take advantage of a chance to split the 2012 Eggball series with our Ole Miss Rebels. It's a very important game for both teams with regards to SEC and NCAA Tournament footing. Ole Miss has had a few "must wins" on the schedule this year, with tonight's game being no exception to this. MSU's resume at this point is better than Ole Miss', but if they drop this one, they're not looking at many games remaining that will improve their RPI.
The Rebels are looking for a second big win to make bracketologists take us seriously enough to put us in the tournament for now. While things don't look good for our chances at a bid, they could be much brighter with a win tonight as it is a road win against a top-25 team. Were our Rebels to have bettered Florida, Auburn, or Alabama (all games were easily winnable), we'd be in much better shape today resume wise, but no use in rehashing that; we are where we are, and we need a win tonight in a place we, and most SEC teams, rarely win.
I don't watch Justified, but I'm going to start.
Bloggeur Q&A: Basketball with For Whom the Cowbell Tolls
The Indoor Egg Bowl takes place again tonight, as our Rebels play against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in The Humpty Hump. To prepare you for this, we've collaborated with For Whom the Cowbell Tolls and a man claiming to not be Kyle Veazey (Nice try, Sleazey Veazey Nice 'n' Squeezy*) to exchange some questions and answers. On there site, you've got me answering there questions, while here you've got them answering my questions. Simple enough? Great, let's dig in.
"Wait wait wait. You mean to tell me you talked to those guys at that blog?!"
Yeah. We did. I know we've had our online monkeys-throwin-doo-doo-TSUN-TSFWCDAO fights before but, in the words of Pappy O'Daniel, "I'm a forgive-and-forget Christian, and I say if their rambunctiousness and misdemeanoring is behind them...Well, then, I say, by the power vested in me, these boys is hereby pardoned!"
So, Grinders, have you answers to my questions?
1) It's really hard for us to get a bead as to how Mississippi State fans feel about Rick Stansbury. On the one hand, there are those who appreciate his recruiting and maintenance of the Hump's home court advantage, while on the other hand there seem to be those who feel that he's not allowing the program to reach its full potential. Care to take a stance on Rick Stansbury's coaching?
I'll take some heat for this possibly, but I'm not the world's biggest Stansbury fan. In his 10+ years he's yet to make one Sweet Sixteen, and with some of the talented teams he's had in that time I think myself along with other State fans have a gripe about that. There's also the "transfering" issue, with the program seeing almost one player per year transfer over the past several seasons. Now some of those aren't on Stansbury, but some just have that feeling of coach mismanagement as the cause. I will say Stansbury in the SEC tourney is either 100% on or 100% off, so if he has the team ready to play then they always have a chance to win the tourney. But when he get's a team to the NCAA, he leaves something to be desired. Now watch, now that I've said this in public he'll take us to the Final Four and get a 25 year extension.
Our old friend Cowboy's back, and he's got a new club for all us to join. (NSFW language and general Roll-Tidery)
Ole Miss is Raylan Givens' SEC Campus of Choice
This was mentioned in the Sean Tuohy for AD? comment section, but here's the video. During last night's episode of Justified - pretty much the best show on tv - Ole Miss and its wimmens got a very nice name drop from the main character, Raylan Givens. Hotty Toddy.

Rebel Roundup - February 8, 2012
Apologies for the SBNation Slowness
The network went out drinking last night. He didn't wanna go, mostly because Bleacher Report was there buying Jaeger shots and wearing a shirt that was the exact same color as his unpatterned tie. He also had highlights in his hair and talked way too loudly for the setting. SBNation drank for the sake of it and to make the evening more tolerable, and wound up calling in sick this morning with an "upset stomach" as a result. Forgive SBNation. He does this sometimes.
Rebs Stress Board Play | ClarionLedger
Tomorrow night the Ole Miss Rebel mens basketball team makes the oft-traveled yet rarely-enjoyed trek to Oktibbeha County, Mississippi, to take on the archrival Mississippi State Fightin' Sidneys (Get it? Because he got in a fistfight with his own teammate last year? Remember?). The key to the game will be down low, both offensively and defensively, and particularly against the glass. In this piece, Rebel assistant coach Al Pinkins discusses how he has tried to make Ole Miss a dominant team down low which, to his credit, he's done a good job of with the talent available.
Bracketology: Ole Miss Edition | TheDMOnline
The Daily Mississippian's Austin Miller talked bracketology with ESPN's Joe Lunardi and where he saw Ole Miss in the field of potential tournament teams. According to Lunardi, we're on the bubble, per the usual under Andy Kennedy, and would have to win 10-11 SEC games (tournament included) to make the dance. That's a tall order for a team which has shown that it's wholly incapable of winning an SEC game on the road.
Rebs land top Louisiana right-hander | RebelGrove.com
Ryan Leone, a pitcher with a reportedly excellent curve and better-than-average fastball out of Shreveport, has committed to Ole Miss over Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Stanford. New coaches Carl Lafferty and Cliff Godwin are, again, proving themselvesto be two of the best college baseball recruiters in the business.
Godwin Brings Energy and Confidence | TheDMOnline
Speaking of Coach Godwin, the Daily Mississippian's David Collier had a chance to speak with the Rebel hitting coach as to his coaching philosophy and style. What he plans to instill in this team is a "confidence" at the plate, something which he feels our program has been lacking as of late.
Baseball America's SEC Preview
Ole Miss is ranked #22 and picked third in the West behind Arkansas and LSU. We're also projected to return to the postseason. Baseball America also lists two Ole Miss Rebels among the top-10 newcomers, Hawtin Buchanan and Senquez Golson.
Rivals.com Top-100 for 2013
Robert Nkemdiche is #1. Antonio Connor and Kailo Moore, two Mississippians who are being heavily pursued by Ole Miss, are also on the list.
Mannings Follow Father, But Not in His Footsteps | NYTimes
Archie was the Cam Newton of his day. Eli and Peyton Manning, though, are practically statues in the pocket and can win games on their arms. The New York Times writes about this. Read it.
