This was mentioned in the Sean Tuohy for AD? comment section, but here's the video. During last night's episode of Justified - pretty much the best show on tv - Ole Miss and its wimmens got a very nice name drop from the main character, Raylan Givens. Hotty Toddy.

Not sure if this was posted when it first dropped, but all this Tuohy stuff got me thinking: where was his check book when all that newspaper ink was spilt for a new AD?

Spoiler: he's pro Foward Rebs, though the FR website listed him at 6 (under Walker Jones) under its GOB-for-AD category.

A sports psychologist from Indiana University says that "[p]eople can have such a strong identification with their sports team that they actually go through a grieving process when the team loses." If anyone needs help dealing with sports-loss-induced grief, it's Rebel fans. Bookmark this for next football season.

On National Signing Day, Dan Mullen made some remarks that seemed to be a thinly veiled shot at Coach Freeze:

"A lot of people are going to get up and preach about what their program is and when they get there, the guys all of the sudden realize it is something very different. They get up and preach but yet they don't live it. These young men had the opportunity to not just hear us preach about our program, but see that we actually live it."

A YouTube video, posted on the Friday after NSD, has taken this speech and integrated some risqué footage of the Bulldogs' locker room celebration after the Egg Bowl. While I don't think the locker room celebrations of eighteen-year-olds should be taken seriously (and I don't give a shit about "foul" language), this video does show to some extent how Mullen's remarks mostly consist of hollow dipshittery meant to get under the skin of Ole Miss fans. If you hate Dan Mullen, you'll enjoy the video.

Jalen Whitlow, a 3 star QB/Athlete out of Prattville Alabama, has been offered a scholarship to play football at Ole Miss. Whitlow (6'3" 200 lbs) is currently an Arkansas State commitment, however his stock has been on the rise as of late. It's believed that it's not too late for Ole Miss to convince Whitlow (and his 4.55 forty time) to come to Oxford.

Davion Johnson, a 6'4" 315 lb. offensive tackle out of Byhalia, MS, committed to Ole Miss on Sunday and became Coach Freeze's first commitment for the 2013 class. Johnson also had an offer from MSU, and several other SEC schools were already showing a lot of interest, such as Alabama. "Something special is going on at Ole Miss," Johnson said after he made his decision. It is believed by many that Johnson's commitment could have an impact with several other 2013 Mississippi recruits, such as Antonio Connor - a highly-touted Safety from South Panola.

The link is to an interview with Robert Nkemdiche on Fox Sports South. Nkemdiche, a five star defensive line recruit for the class of 2013 (and the brother of current Ole Miss Rebel Denzel Nkemdiche), lists his top five schools in the interview. Just before the 2:00 mark he states that, as of right now, his top five consists of Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Florida State. Obviously, Robert signing up to be a Rebel would be huge, but just getting this guy to visit our campus will be a good thing for Ole Miss.

This is an article by ESPN's Chris Low that examines the current All-SEC team and looks back at how they were ranked in the crootin' rankings. As Low points out, many of the players on this year's All-SEC squad were ranked fairly accurately when they were coming out of high school, which usually isn't the case. Generally these articles are a good reminder about how flawed recruiting rankings can be.

On the same note, if you really want to see a great example of how rankings, stars, and recruiting conjecture are sometimes taken too seriously, click this link. That link is to Nutt's heralded signing class of 37 in 2009. You know, back when we thought Pat Patterson would be the next Jerry Rice, Darius Barksdale was going to tear it up in the SEC, and Jamar Hornsby was just a troubled young man who was coming to Ole Miss to get some heppin'. It is also a good reminder that every recruiting class has its bright spots, such as D.T. Shackleford, Mike Marry, and Charles Sawyer.

Ole Miss' is pretty basic:

Hi, I’m Hugh Freeze… And come on, you don't really want to go to college in Starkville, do you?

The rest are pretty funny though!
