Rebels in MLB (week 2)

Now that the players have several games under their belt, I feel like I can give a little analysis to go along with these numbers. Baseball is my passion so I feel like i kinda half-ass know what I am talking about.

Another good week for the former Rebel players this week as we saw Lynn dominate again and Pomeranz made his first start of the season. As always, the players and their stats will be below the jump. Enjoy.

Terry Brutus...and schollarships

Today I gave a residence hall tour to a guy from New York name Terry Brutus. Later on today I found out that he committed. First of all he's listed as a 6'6 and 210-235 lbs who can play both small forward and power forward...that's not true. He is 6'4 and maybe 6'5 on a good day, but Murphy Hollaway is about 6'5 too so maybe he can play the post occasionally. I think that he is at least 230 because apparently he put on 25 pounds of muscle while at military school. It's always good to get recruits who want to be here though. I noticed that we have two more players than scholarships. I'm assuming that Jelan is gone although I still see him on campus on the time, but who else might be leaving?

Do we have a scholarship available for one stranded teen?

It's just sad and wrong what the Utah Utes are doing to this kid.

What say you? The kid is talented and was apparently talented enough to play for the Utes until he developed an illness related to his extremely fast growth. No word if it's under control yet, but it would certainly be in good hands with SEC level team docs at Ole Miss and the University Medical Center if he needed it, right?

Former Tennessee Player Talks about Coach O

A former TN player was answering questions on Reddit about Lane Kiffin and someone asked about Coach O

What was Ed Orgeron like?

[–]Tennesseemodog97[S] 5 points 1 hour ago

He's a teddy bear. Off the field at least, and when he's in a good mood on the field. Get him pissed off and good bye having a fun time though. We learned not to ask him anything about his time at Ole Miss after a freshman initiation team event (freshman have to do something, a skit, stand up, sing, do a talent in front of the team and the team has to applaud for them to pass) and one kid imitated Orgeron at Ole Miss.

That kid ran for so long the next morning it was terrifying.

[–]USCHonestly_ 3 points 1 hour ago

Tell me he did the "Colonel Reb is Crying" song... oh man, that would be hilarious. :D

[–]Tennesseemodog97[S] 4 points 1 hour ago

That would be the one. Everyone was dying laughing. Except Coach O in the back of room with the stare of death.

[–]USCHonestly_ 5 points 1 hour ago

Brave, brave soul, that one.

I could only imagine the silence in the room.

A word of caution, my partners in shadenfreude.

I have to qualify this post with an admission up front. I'm loving this shit. It's delicious and fantastic to watch the unabashed, psychotic, hysteria sweeping through Razorback nation right now. Entertainment at the expense of the same jaded, mouth breathing, holier than thou Arky fans who made life for us completely miserable 4 years ago is welcomed and deserved, imho. But, we should tread lightly from here on out.

Rebels in MLB (stats)

{ED: Frontpag'd. Thanks for doing this. We'll be looking forward to it.]

Want to start off by saying I hope everyone had a fantastic Easter. I saw that Thile posted a fan post about Rebels in the Majors a few days ago, but not sure if he planned on giving weekly stats, so I'm gonna give it a whirl. I am going to try to do this every Sunday (as long as people give a damn) but forgive me if I miss a week. And as the season goes on, i cant promise I will do weekly stats, might just be their stats to date. There are currently 7 Rebels in the Majors and their stats will be below the jump.

Christopher Robinson is a REBEL!!! atleast Verbally 4- Star and will be on the 1st Team US Army Defense

The Reb Football team got a verbal commitment from Christopher Robinson from Shreveport, who is a 4star DT and is on the first team US Army All American, Apparently Freeze has collected another Stud on Defense for next season unless he changes his mind, give Freeze and his staff some credit. Our Rebels haven't had much success but against almost all odds they seem to keep getting very good players, great job coaches keep it up! http://olemiss.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1317775

Ole Miss Baseball - Rebels in the Pros - MLB edition

Drew Pomeranz

As a follow up to last year, I'll do one now, for the players starting the year on a Major League roster, and another when the minor league camps break and I know who is where. We do have quite a few former Ole Miss players starting the season in the majors this year, so it is a pretty exciting time to be a Rebel given that and our nice start to the NCAA season. If I miss anything, please be sure to let me know.

Chris Coghlan, former NL Rookie of the Year, trying to get back on track, is the fourth outfielder for the Florida Miami Marlins this year.

Zack Cozart is the starting shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds. (Words I can never spell: Cincinnati and centennial). Looks like he had off-season elbow surgery, but I don't know much about that. Slated to bat second as well.

Relentlessly Pursue the Ball: Practice Report 4/3/12

Today's practice report won't be too terribly long because I feel like a majority of it would be repeating myself regarding the offensive play-calling, quarterback situation, receivers and how they are doing.

Firstly, the threat of lightning moved us into the IPF for the day. Jeff Scott was there, but not dressed after being sent home yesterday with a fever and flu-like symptoms. Zack Stoudt was simply in practice jersey and shorts today. Issac Gross came over from Batesville to watch practice and see what Chris Kiffin is asking of his guys. This was also the first day that, unless you made it to practice yesterday at 5:30 in the morning, many of us got the chance to see Nick Brassell in this offense. Obviously, his speed is still there and, for two days, his routes are pretty tight. While this was good, he still has to get up to the offense's pace in the two quarterback drill and is having to work more on his downfield blocking with Grant Heard.

Speaking of the two quarterback quickness drill, the offensive line they used with Brunetti & Wallace is probably the best offensive line I've seen and the competitions are starting to settle. The offensive line was Aaron Morris - LT, Justin Bell - LG, Evan Swindall - C, AJ Hawkins - RG, and Emmanuel McCray - RT. They got a majority of the reps and each one looked noticeably tighter and quicker than their back-ups, outside of McCray, who will probably keep getting pushed by Pierce Burton. Hugh said post-practice that part of Burton getting moved down is result of a poor practice Monday. Darone Bailey may make a push at Morris on the left once he gets a little more healthy as well.
