We're Better Than This. Let's Keep It That Way.

Andybeerme_tiny by BeerMeAHottyToddy on Feb 10, 2012 3:30 AM EST

[ED: Frontpag'd. Definitely worth a read and definitely something to think about.]

I don't like to post a lot of negative stuff here on the Cup. I always feel that people (read: other fans) look at negative comments on our blogs, message boards, and the like as fodder to point at how we bicker amongst each other and have such a "fractured fanbase". While I understand the reasons for some negativity around this program right now, I make a personal point of trying not to put too many negative comments, fanshots, or posts for all of the college sports world to see. If I get that mad, I usually sit down, make a drink, and find some other way to vent. Other people seem to vent in a different way.

That being said, I will not link the video that inspired me to write this fanpost. I would rather the assholes that made it not get any more views than they already have. I will, however, describe it and give you the information you need to find it if you would like to see it for yourself.

DT Shackleford

Tiny by deedubb08 on Feb 7, 2012 4:35 PM EST

Does anybody know the specifics of DT's procedure that has to be redone on his ACL. This was his latest facebook status : " Thank everybody for their prayers. This situation will get better with time, just got to be patient. I heard a few people saying "D.T. you sure you will be able to recover and perform at a high level again, I'm not sure you can after back to back surgeries." I told them this all with God's timing and imma work my butt off. They probably dont believe me, just like they never believed I could go to a division one school from Austin, or graduate early. i guess what people tell me i can't do is what motivates and propels me to Never Quit. This all will get better with time and a heart to Work... God Bless.. Go Rebels " That sounds like it could be worse than people are saying it is. Anyways, for anybody with inside resources, commentary would be greatly appreciated!

Bah Humbug

Tiny by Totty Hoddy on Jan 31, 2012 2:47 PM EST

All I wanted for Christmas this year was a good recruiting effort, but it's not looking good. It's like asking for an IPAD for Christmas and getting a pencil with paper instead. LSU stole a recruit from our backyard and will probably steer the No.1 JUCO WR right down them with him. Sheldon Dawson is going to be a bulldog, well at least he didn't go to Starkpatch but most of the best talent from Mississippi did, which F*'n sucks. I know that coach hasn't had much of a chance to recruit this off-season but with a poor class coming in and the fortuitous of others may put us worse than last year atleast talent wise. I sincerely hope coach can give us some sort of relevency this year although it's far fetched to think we probably will stand a fighting chance against Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Arkansas and non conference foe Texas (that's 5 losses) and Vanderbilt, Auburn & MSMOO aren't a guarantee either which puts us on the fast track of giving up half way through the season like the past two years. This coming year looks just as abysmal as the past two with no sign of turning it around in the near future, as you can tell my bourbon glass is half full.

If AK can't get it done

Dale1_tiny by WVTNRebel on Jan 28, 2012 1:57 PM EST

Seems like with a new AD on the horizon, if Kennedy gets continuously outcoached (like he did Thursday) and doesn't make the tournament, he's living on borrowed time. If he is, do you think we try to hire a big name assistant or a mid-major coach to take over and what do you think the school would be willing to do. Me personally, if it wasn't a lateral at best move, would love to see us hire Dana Altman, who's at Oregon now. As far as realistic options, I would like to see us make a play for Gregg Marshall. Used have Winthrop beating the fire out of people and is now doing well at Wichita State. We need someone who has set themselves apart at a lower level (like Anthony Grant VCU to Bama) instead of an assistant who seems to be a hot commodity (like the John Pelphrey Experiment at Arkansas) in my opinion. But if we do end up getting rid of AK sooner rather than later, who would you like to see take over the program.

Men of Gentleness and Ladies, much pleasure it brings me to speak in forthright manner this night. Information of corrupt fashion lately has disseminated to many such as yourselfs from School of North and partnering Capitalist institutions and agencies. Information of this nature is not to be believed! Assurance be had that no defeat of People's University has occurrenced on evening such as this.

Rebel Expectations

Ole_miss_rebels_tiny by Randy1375 on Jan 18, 2012 8:54 PM EST

Baseball:

The Rebels have been one of the better teams in the SEC the past 5 years. But without Drew Pomeranz who is pitching for the Colorado Rockies the Rebels will need to step there game up. Even though last year the Rebels played without Pomeranz the Rebels still have not gotten over the star. The Rebels have one of the best up and coming pitchers in the SEC and one of the better in the NCAA. His name? Bobby Wahl. Wahl is a right handed pitcher from Springfield, Virginia. The Rebels are not expected to make that big of a splash in the SEC but if the Rebs can start the season out with a sweep of TCU and then try to win 11 out of 12 games during the 12 game home stretch then sweep at least win one of the two games against Louisville then the Rebels might be able to get out of the SEC with a better than .500 record.

Basketball (last half of the season):

So far the Rebels basketball season has been up and down. The Rebels started out this season 10-1 but then the Rebels lost 3 in a row. The Rebels broke the slump with a 2 point victory against SMU. Then the Rebs lost to LSU then beat Arkansas then lost a nail biter against the Auburn Tigers in 2OT. The Rebels have tried to replace Chris Warren with Dundrecous Nelson. But after Nelson was arrested for possession of illegal drugs the Rebels dismissed Nelson. Murphy Holloway has saved this season for the Rebels. The Rebels still have a chance to do something in the SEC but the Rebels are going to have to learn to score some more. The coach of the Rebels Andy Kennedy spoke one that matter after the lose to the Auburn Tigers Saturday “I’m not sure it’s how we want to play, but it’s who we are, it’s who this team is.”

Hockey:

The Rebels hockey team is probably the best sports team for the Rebels (not a lot to proud of). The Rebels hockey team is 13-7 this year. I personally saw the Rebels defeat Mississippi State Bulldogs 9-2 when they played in Tupelo, Mississippi (which included a bench clearing brawl by the way). The Rebels are looking like a team that could finish .500 in the SEC but could make some noise in the playoffs, if they make it.

Football:

The Rebels football teams was the worst team in the SEC last season. The Rebs finished the season 2-10. The Rebels fired there head coach Houston Nutt in the off-season and the Rebels Athletic Director Pete Boone decided that he would step down from his position. The Rebels have since signed Hugh Freeze from Arkansas State as there Head Coach. The Rebels have had a decent recruiting class this year also. The Rebels have received commitments from Aberdeen’s Channing Ward, Murfreesboro, Tennessee’s I’Tavius Mathers, and Batesville’s Issac Gross. The Rebels are not expected to do much this year in the SEC but I think they might won 4 games this year if there lucky.

Run DMC Run

Randy.

It's that time of the year again

Biddle-taye_hs-06_tiny by 25 Days a Week on Jan 17, 2012 7:14 AM EST

[HT: 25DaW for this much needed good news. Tennis, y'all.]

That's right. In the form of SEC Indoor individual competitions, tennis season has made its long-awaited return for a Rebel fanbase so direly in need of success of any kind. I know the question that most of our fanbase asks about our tennis team is "Just how good are we?" Though I haven't seen us play this year and I generally take the results of preseason indoor competitions with a handful of grains of salt*, I'm happy to say that we should return to our proper place competing for the SEC title after a season plagued by unfortunate circumstances.

The biggest addition to the team is big-serving South African Nik Scholtz, who was on campus last year but wasn't cleared by the NCAA to play. Scholtz's run to the semifinals of the singles competition this weekend included a win over Kentucky's No. 2 player. He looks to leap right to the top of the line-up and play No. 1 singles for us. Therein lies his value: This allows Marcel to play No. 2 and prevents everyone else from having to scoot up a spot after Tucker's graduation. I expect Nik to be a solid No. 1 this year, but the top spot in an SEC schedule is not an easy place to be.

Dundrecous to JSU

Tiny by deedubb08 on Jan 16, 2012 11:53 PM EST

For those of you who care Dundrecous Nelson has transferred to Jackson State University. He just enrolled into classes at Jackson State today. He really could have been a great Rebel if he was better on and off of the court. I wish I could feel sorry for him but I simply can't even though I know him personally. I'm sure he'll light it up in the SWAC though (no pun intended).

Here's the link to the article.

What's that Chuck? You think OM fans need to stop bitching about Walker Jones being rumored as the next AD??? My internet hero issues a retort.

Tiny by OxpatchReb on Jan 11, 2012 10:37 PM EST

What follows is a post by one of the most prolific smart-asses in the webosphere. He perfectly captures my feelings about Chucks condescending, arrogant and contemptuous tongue lashing issued to members of his website who had the audacity to express feelings of concern, contention and disgust over what will be one of the most retarded, jaw dropping, SAME OL SAME OL personnel decisions OM could possibly make. Rock on you glorious, word smithing, snarkopus. Rock the hell on.

Chucks statement is listed in bold and the response in regular type...

TJ Worthy leaving

Tiny by deedubb08 on Jan 11, 2012 3:28 PM EST

I live in the athletes dorm, the Residential College, and freshman TJ Worthy is moving out and just told me he's transferring. I know he wasn't highly rated but he was a guy with great character and I thought he'd contribute to the team next yr. It's too bad that he didn't really get an opportunity to show the new coaching staff how good he was, but I wish him the best of luck with his future plans.
