Tidbits from today's fall scrimmage

Today's scrimmage was nothing more then a glorified practice and since it was open to the public it was very straight forward in the sense that I didn't notice anything special on the play-calling end. Oh, and our defense was DOMINANT.

10:00 AM-The players went to different parts of the field to do position drills. There was nothing special or out of the ordinary about this. The main thing that I noticed was a particular QB drill that had Bo, Buchanan, Switchblade, Drew Davis, and Doss throwing at a pocketed net on wills to work on their accuracy. The net was placed around 25 yards from the Qb's and they would take the snap, do a 3 step drop, and then try to put the ball in one of four pockets that were sewn into the net. Bo wallace threw the ball dead center each time and made it into the center pocket on the majority of the throws. Switchblade hit the net but only made about half of his throws into the pocket. Doss actually did better than Buchanan and we have to hope and pray that Davis doesn't have to take snaps because he actually missed the entire net every time he threw the ball. Overall, arm strength for Bo looks good.

10:45- position players lined up for a little 7 on 7 and the results were even for both the offense and defense. Both sides made plays.

11:00-This is the part where our first and second string defense shined. The red/blue teams were sidelined and we had a situational scrimmage of first string offense vs. first string defense and second string offense vs. second string defense. On one of Bo's first passes he threw an interception to the far side of the field that would've been returned for a touchdown. On each and every play the defensive line was getting penetration and RN was in the backfield for the majority of the plays even though he was being double-teamed. By my count, RN had 2-3 sacks and made a particularly athletic play when he was lined up as an outside linebacker. When the ball was snapped he blitzed from the right outside, hurdled over an attempted chop-block, and jumped up to swat Bo's pass. The kid was unstoppable. As for the secondary...well..they made quite a few plays themselves. They were always in a good position to make a play on the ball and that's what we need out of these guys. The offense did have a few bright spots. On one play that was called back because RN was held in the backfield, Bo threw the ball to a wide open Treadwell (he beat Tony Conner) for a touchdown.

1130-1145ish- The scrimmage ended with redzone first team vs first team and situational fieldgoal kicking. Bo made a nice throw to Evan Ingram that brought praise from the crowd. As for our kicking game, we will be fine. All of our kickers made 47 yard attempts.

Well, that's pretty much it for today's scrimmage. This is my first fanPost so be gentle with your criticism.
