Ole Miss Advances to Championship Game of the Oxford Regional, Defeating Washngton 2-1

A pitchers duel swung the way of the Rebs.

The Ole Miss Rebels have advanced to the championship game of the Oxford NCAA Baseball regional, defeating the Washington Huskies in a 2-1 pitcher's duel in the process.

Christian Trent earned the win for the Rebels, pitching 6.1 innings while earning just one run and striking out six. He left the game in a jam, with two runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh, but Aaron Greenwood finished the fame masterfully, striking out four of the ten batters he faced over 2.2 innings.

The Rebs got on the board in the fourth when Austin Anderson scored on a J.B. Woodman double. Austin Bousfield then tacked on the Rebs' second run in the fifth with a solo home run. That would be all Ole Miss would need, as the Huskies could muster only one run against the Rebel arms.

Smeargle, Juco and I wrapped up our thoughts in a ten-ish minute Red Cup Reacts, to which you can listen here. Excuse the background noise if you can, as Smeargle was calling in from left field with a beer in his hand.

Tomorrow at 2 PM Central, Ole Miss will face the winner of tonight's elimination game between Georgia Tech and Washington, in progress as of this recap's publishing. Sam Smith will almost definitely get the start for the Rebels, who need to only win one more game to make a super regional, and lose twice to be eliminated from the postseason.
