Coastal Carolina vs. Ole Miss basketball preview

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

This Ole Miss basketball team is bipolar. What will we see this week?

The Ole Miss Rebels are coming off a disappointing loss to Western Kentucky, as they prepare to host Coastal Carolina tonight in the Tad Pad. The Rebels are a 8.5 point favorite in tonight's matchup, but as we all know in the college basketball world, those 8.5 points are irrelevant.

One minute the Rebels are on a five game win streak, the Emerald Coast Champions, which included big wins over #23 Creighton and Cincinnati. They even beat Oregon in Eugene! Then the next minute the Rebels are suffering losses to TCU and Western Kentucky.

The loss to WKU was unacceptable in regards to postseason discussions. Regardless of whether that statement is feasible or not, as Rebel fans we like to believe that "tournament berth" is a minimal expectation each year. Even if it is the NIT. Nothing could be worse than last year's results.

The Rebels' problems this season are on offense. This team can't score when needed, and when it counts, they're blowing sixteen point leads. Their field goal percentage currently ranks 261st in the nation. Yes, your eyes are correct. If that isn't last place, I'm pretty sure it is damn close.

If any of these guys are going to carry this team, it will be Stefan Moody and Jarvis Summers. Summers is currently averaging 11.7 PPG, and is the active SEC leader in total career points (1,338). Moody has had a breakthrough season thus far after his junior college transfer. He is averaging 15.2 PPG (team leader). Moody recorded 22 points against Oregon and 26 against Cincinnati.

A win tonight?

Bow your heads.

Let us pray.
