Ole Miss Recruiting: Top Prospect Targets 12/14/14 Update

Now that the 2014 football season is wrapping up, and Ole Miss Basketball is like watching paint dry, that leaves us with recruiting to entertain us. Where will these talented new prospects go?

This past week, Ole Miss received some headlines in the recruiting department. The Ole Miss Rebels received commitments from JUCO star QB Chad Kelly, OLB Terry Caldwell, and a bonus with offensive tackle Michael Howard. With national signing day approaching, the focus on recruiting will grow as the national's top prospects commit to their school of choice. There is still several talented players uncommitted for the 2015 recruiting class, including the number one prospect in the nation, offensive tackle Martez Ivey. Let's take a look at some targets who show the Rebels as a possible favorite.

1. CeCe Jefferson (SDE) 6/2, 250

From: Glen Saint Mary, FL High School: Baker County

CeCe Jefferson is a five-star prospect and is rated the No. 2 defensive end in the nation. He is also rated the No. 3 prospect out of Florida. If Jefferson were to commit to the Rebels there would be more reassuring talent coming into the latest class. His athleticism and ability to pressure the quarterback are some of Jefferson's biggest attributes. He currently has Ole Miss in his top three schools of interests, behind Alabama and Florida. He made an official campus visit back in the beginning of October and has been heavily recruited by Matt Luke and Chris Kiffin. If you're looking for the next C.J. Johnson, this is your guy.

2. Ryan Newsome (WR) 5/8, 170

From: Aledo, TX High School: Aledo

I know what you're thinking, his size? However, just imagine a Dexter McCluster without the dreads and you have Ryan Newsome. Newsome is a four-star prospect out of Texas and is rated as the No. 25 prospect in the nation by most recruiting sites. He may have the best ability to cause mismatches in the country. Newsome also has great ability to strive for extra yards after the catch. He has been recruited by Tom Allen and Grant Heard. Newsome currently has Ole Miss within his top five schools of interests, behind Tennessee, UCLA, Oklahoma, and Texas.

3. Martinas Rankin (OT) 6/5, 350

From: Perkinston, MS

Martinas Rankin is three-star prospect who is currently one the top offensive tackle prospects in the country. He is currently rated the No. 8 prospect in the state of Mississippi. The Rebels have been very successful in recruiting within the state lately, and leads Mississippi State in this category. Our fans know the rivalry with the Bulldogs goes far beyond the Egg Bowl. We want to have complete control of this state, and that includes the top prospects it has to offer. Rankin has been heavily recruited by Matt Luke and currently has the Rebels as his number two school of interests. The only other school ahead of Ole Miss in Rankin's interest is Mississippi State, but the level of his decision is too close to determine which school Ramkin will commit to right now.

4. D.J. Jones (DT) 6/2, 310

From: Piedmont, SC High School: Wren Junior College: East Mississippi Community College

Yes, D.J. Jones committed to Florida State back in July, but with the recent commitment from Chad Kelly to Ole Miss brings a possible commitment flip that could swing in the Rebels favor. Jones and Kelly were teammates at EMCC this past season, and Jones just may want to follow in his former teammate's footsteps. This normally doesn't happen, but former teammates and family members have helped the Rebels in past recruiting. Look at Denzel Nkemdiche and Robert Nkemdiche; there was no way these brothers could be apart. 2015 running back commit, Eric Swinney is from the same high school as Mike Hilton in Sandy Creek, Georgia . So, yes it is possible Jones could reconsider his offer from the Rebels. Just recently he made an official campus visit to Oxford a day before the Egg Bowl.
