Tennessee 86, Ole Miss 70: Four Factors Review

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Ole Miss UT
Possessions 68
eFG% 49.2% 58.2%
TO% 13.2% 17.6%
OR% 22.5% 43.8%
FTR 19.0 27.9
OM PPP 1.03
UT PPP 1.26

That's going to leave a mark. The Rebels got bullied last night in Knoxville as a ridiculously hot shooting Volunteers team ran the Rebels out of Thompson-Boling Arena with a good old-fashioned skull-dragging. For the most part, the Rebs did what they do on offense - shoot right around 50% eFG% and protect the ball very well. Defensively though, it was a disaster. Only Oregon has shot the ball better against the Rebels (66.9% eFG%) and had a higher PPP (1.31). It's only the fourth time all year an opponent has shot the ball better than the Rebs. But couple that with a 43.8% OR% and there's no chance to stay close.

The difference was clearly in the paint as the Rebels got just 10 points and 13 rebounds out of Aaron Jones/Sebastian Saiz/Dwight Coleby/Demarco Cox, while the Vols got 29 points and 23 rebounds out of Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon.

The Rebels now have to face a South Carolina team that posted a 43.9% OR% against them a few games back. After that, it's off to Lexington to face a Big Blue Kentucky team that trails only Tennessee in OR% in conference games. They better figure out to rebound the ball defensively quickly or this season may get out of control...
