The 2013 Chucky Mullins Courage Award winner and recipient of the iconic #38 Ole Miss Rebel jersey is senior linebacker Mike Marry.
Being an award given as much for on-field performance as it is for human character, it is tough to argue for another upperclassman on defense to receive the award over Mike Marry. This past season, Marry started twelve games from his middle linebacker spot, finishing third on the team with 78 tackles and second with 10.5 tackles for a loss. Against Pitt in the BBVA Compass Bowl, Marry had seven tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss, a sack and a forced fumble. He has been a mainstay in the middle of the Rebel defense since he first began playing here, and should only continue in that capacity this fall.
Outside of his play, Marry will undoubtedly take on a leadership role this fall as he will be one of the few senior starters on the Rebel D. Known for his soft-spoken and humble demeanor, Mike Marry is the type of player who leads by example and who gets by on hard work consistency. He's never presented the team with any academic or discipline issues - as far as we know, of course - and really is a guy that fans and coaches can count on to perform and represent Ole Miss well.
So congratulations from the Cup to Mike Marry. We know he'll represent Chucky Mullins well for us this season.
