The Diamond Rebs notched yet another win into their young 2013 season tonight in Monroe, Louisiana, topping the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe by a score of 10-4. Read the GAME RECAP from Media Relations. The #6 Rebels are now 17-1.
Offensively, the Rebels were paced by Auston Bousfield (3-6, 2 runs, 1 RBI) and Austin Anderson (2-3, 3 RBI). Anderson (.400) and Bousfield (.342) have hit their ways into the 2nd and 3rd best batting averages on the team, respectively, trailing only Stuart Turner, who leads the Rebels in every appreciable batting statistical category, including batting average (.483), hits (28), RBIs (28), and HRs (2). Taking the entire SEC into account, Turner ranks 1st in batting average, slugging percentage, RBIs, doubles, and total bases. He ranks 3rd in hits.
On the mound, Josh Laxer picked up his second win of the year (2-0) after pitching 6.1 innings with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks, allowing 3 hits and 3 earned runs.
The Rebels and the Warhawks will square off again tomorrow night for the second game of the midweek double-header. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm. The Freshman, Brady Bramlett, is expected to take the mound for Ole Miss.
Should the Rebels win tomorrow night, they will tie the school record for the best start to a season in school history (18-1), which means if Ole Miss wins tomorrow night and Friday's game in Fayetteville, they will make baseball history.
