Rebels Slide in Rankings and Bracketology

After beginning their season with a record of 17-2, the best in school history, the Ole Miss Rebels have lost back-to-back contests against the Kentucky Wildcats (Box Score) and the Florida Gators (Box Score). As a result, the Rebels tumbled out of the AP rankings yesterday from their #16 ranking just a week prior and slid from #16 to #23 in the Coaches' Poll. In the RPI rankings, Ole Miss has fallen over ten spots, from the low 30's to the low 40's.

In Joe Lunardi's Bracketology, Ole Miss fell from a 7 seed to a 9 seed, currently matched against the 8 seed Oklahoma State Cowboys, the winner certain to face the 1 seed Michigan Wolverines.

A tough home loss to Kentucky last Tuesday coupled with a season-ending injury to (F) Aaron Jones set the stage for an entire week of disappointment. However, as of now, the Rebels remain an expected tournament team and have an opportunity to get back on track tomorrow evening against the cross-state rival Bulldogs. Tad Smith Coliseum has sold out once again, and (G) Nick Williams, Ole Miss' sixth man, is expected to return from a foot injury.
