Hugh Freeze has his man. Maybe.
Sophomore quarterback Bo Wallace out of East Mississippi Community College by way of Arkansas State by way of Giles County High School in Pulaski, Tennessee, was named the starter at that position for the Ole Miss Rebels for the team's season opener this Saturday against Central Arkansas. He was selected over Barry Brunetti, a junior from Memphis who, per yet-to-be-confirmed rumors, will also see playing time in the opener.
This comes as a surprise to few, as Bo Wallace has been presumed to take over the starting quarterback position ever since his signing with Ole Miss. Last season, at EMCC, he was named the Junior College Player of the Year after throwing for 4,604 yards and 53 touchdowns, setting a handful of national junior college records in the process. His EMCC Lions team went undefeated and won the juco national championship under his leadership.
Before EMCC, Wallace was a quarterback under Hugh Freeze at Arkansas State. It was there that he gained an understanding of Coach Freeze's playbook and coaching style, giving him a significant leg-up on Brunetti going into Spring camp.
Congratulations to Bo. Let's just hope that UCA doesn't recruit from Poyk Nayshun for defenders.
