It's Friday.
Football practice starts tomorrow. Yeah. If you're going, let us know. We'd love to get reports.
Ole Miss Minus 2 Key Frosh - For Now | Clarion Ledger
Temario Strong and Channing Ward are expected to be cleared, but there's obviously a little bit of anxiety that arises when players are still waiting to be cleared on August 3rd. Strong likely won't be counted on in year one, but Ward has a shot to get significant playing time as a pass-rushing specialist.
It looks like Gerald Rivers is off the team after struggling to remain academically eligible. The fifth-year senior contributed some to the team, and it's frustrating that of all people, a guy who has been with the program for five years would flunk.
I realize there are people who think that the postseason is all that matters. I'm not one of those people. If Eli can get a third ring, he's automatic. Otherwise, it will take him improving his regular season play (which obviously wasn't an issue last year).
He's one of the most clutch quarterbacks of all time. Is that enough to get into the Hall right now? Maybe. I just think that in today's era of high powered offense, you've got to put up some impressive stats to be a sure thing.
Jeff Scott named to Hornung Award Watch List | WJTV12
The award goes to the nation's most versatile player. There's little to no chance that Scott wins the award, but it's nice to see that a few of the players on our team are good enough for early lists.
I really like Jeff's game, and I don't think a lot of our fans realize just how easily he can take over a game in the right situation. I remember in January, when there was word that he wouldn't be eligible, I read posts by fans who said they didn't think the team would miss him much. Seriously? Not only is he the only halfback with legit snaps. He's also probably the fastest player on the team. In Freeze's offense, he could be explosive.
