Per Yancy Porter, Jeremy Liggins is set to commit to LSU tonight. From Irie. On the Square. In Oxford.

Does anyone find the circumstances of this announcement Lebron-esque?
I live three blocks from Irie, so I may just walk up so I can boo that jackass.
That was a called play, and I called it Brotha!!! HYYAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

I...he's...but...we...and...corndogs...
If I’ve learned anything from my 28 years on this planet, is that the explanation to most thing is life is, “No. It’s not supposed to make sense.”
That will be one of the all-time dick moves
I feel bad for his family. I hope they’re prepared to eat a lot of shit and/or move.
Step back; take a deep breath, and realize just how ignorant that statement is.
Definitely a WAOM moment for us, but a dick move from him? Not hardly.
I want him at Ole Miss just as much as the next guy, but at the end of the day, he doesn’t have any obligation to the school. He can’t help that he lives in Lafayette County was INVITED to be part of a GROUP of kids to announce their decision at Irie tonight. He did not ask to come there and announce he was going to LSU. The people who organized the event asked him to attend, and they are loving all this drama that an 18 year old kid’s college decision has created.
LSU is one of the top programs in the nation, and they currently have no qb prospects in this signing class. They’ve done well with big qbs in the past – see Jamarcus Russell. Hate the coonasses as I might, I can’t blame the kid for going, especially after we signed Wallace.
Boo him tonight, be disappointed in his decision, pull against his ass when we play him, but don’t act like you’re going to run the kid’s family out of their own hometown because he decided to go to a “damn fine” football school, albeit a rival, to play football.

Did i read that right?
Jamarcus Russell did well? come on man. He was decent at best at LSU. And a complete fucking travesty in the pros.

Maybe not, but I'm fairly sure the only game Russell played in an LSU uniform in 2007
was the Sugar Bowl….of which he was the MVP… So he couldn’t have been too terrible in 2006.
My apologies for the post immediately below.
I thought that your post was a reply to mine, above. Take my post below as support for yours.

.840 winning percentage as a starter and the #1 overall draft pick
uhh… yeah, I’d say Russell did pretty good at LSU.
In fact, I’d even say LSU gave him all the opportunities for which he could ever hope. He screwed them up, but that was his own doings.
Perhaps I'm a little biased lol

Listen, Captain High Road
I was simply saying, his family will have to hear a lot of shit for a long time to come. I wasn’t condoning setting the kid’s house on fire. I was being realistic.
Let's just wait and see what he says before we accept this as fact.
I think 247 sports reported that before Yancy did. 247 sports were also the ones reporting that Richie Brown was headed to Oxford for his visit on Friday, and we saw how that worked out. I’m not so sure that all of this bullshit isn’t just to build this announcement up for publicity. That being said, god I hope Yancy is wrong.
I always say 'beer me.' It gets a laugh, like, a quarter of the time.

247sports has proven to be a very unreliable source
The only thing that would surprise me is if he announced a school other than Ole Miss, LSU or Miss State. I’d give equal odds to each if I were a betting man.
Actually, 247 just reports what recruits tell them without waiting.
So as often as a recruit changes his mind about something, 247 looks bad. Brown probably did tell them he was coming on his visit because he felt pressure to do so. Of course, 247 are the ones who look silly, not Brown changing his mind.
If true he deserves all the booing he gets
Announce from The Square, on an Ole Miss station and announcing for LSU? Come on kid.. Cancel this and announce from the library, I’m sure Mrs.Brick will provide the refreshments.

he cannot cancel the event
it is not his event. Some local sponsors decided that it would be good to provide a forum for local high school players to announce their decisions. He was one of the local players invited. He has agreed to participate. He certainly is not the only one there who will be going to a school other than Ole Miss.
Let's not pretend that he's innocent here.
If he’s going to announce for LSU or State, the prudent thing for him to do would be to stay his ass at home, leak the info to the radio station and let them handle it from there. Period. If he’s announcing for OM, then show up and make a big show of it and enjoy the spotlight/attention.
If he shows up and picks some one other than us, the OM fans in Irie had better make his ear drums bleed with boos. It’s about time we have some pride in being OM fans. Do you think any other SEC school’s fans would shrug their shoulders, give him a golf clap and wish him the best?? Fuck no.

Actually, that's pretty darn logical right there.
An LSU fan suggests that we’re being childish when we discuss booing a hometown recruit for choosing LSU over OM. Not facebooking him, or tweeting him, or throwing things at him, etc. Just expressing our displeasure that a talented prospect is announcing, on the Square, in Oxford, that he’s going to LSU.
LSU fans have in the past, thrown balloons full of piss on visiting fans in TS. This action would seem to be the epitome of childish. Soooooooo….
we all
have our fair share of hooligans. I was speaking for myself and the vast number of rational LSU fans I know (yes, I know we have our fair share of douchebaggery as well, something I’m SURE they never see in the Grove) who are passionate yet mature when it comes to weighing a teenager’s choice of school.

It's not his choice of school. Kid is welcome to go wherever he wants.
It’s how, where and with whom he’s announcing.
Put it this way. A 4* QB from BRHS that LSU wants and needs decides to go to Ole Miss, not really a big deal.
Now imagine, the same kid decides to participate in an LSU Radio “announcement night” at the Chimes to announce his decision. Now, try to tell me that even you growed/rational up LSU fans wouldn’t boo. Horsepucky.
maybe He'll be their
Robert Lane a so so tight end recruited by LSUcks as a QB. The next Eli Manning from Louisiana.

What if he is dedicated Ole Miss recruit and wanted nothing in life but to attend UM then
He read this thread and saw how we all talked shit about him and his family and said fuck it, commissar Mullen here I come.
I’d be cleaning the taste of toe out of my mouth all year. That would suck.

What did anyone say about his family?
He’s free to go wherever he pleases, but if he’s going to make a spectacle out of himself on the Oxford Sqaure in the middle of one of the bars then choose somewhere other than Ole Miss than he should expect what he gets because he deserves it. Nothing against him or his family if they want to go elsewhere but do that shit at your high school with your coach in the gym if you want to pick LSU.

No one, not even on sprivals,
Has bagged on him for going somewhere else. Its announcing it on the Square, on a media outlet named “Rebel Sports” something or the other, that has folks saying things like that would be a douche move.
Saying he should be prepared to hear some boos is nothing like " the L$U fairy dropped a wad of cash under his pillow" or spamming his facebook profiles with “you f*cker enjoy smoking dope and stealing pillows” (or whatever LSU’s equivalent is).
I expect OM fans to be quite palatable compared to the Occupy Oakland-esque riots that would break out in other SEC towns.

Smoke Screen?
He also told 247Sports..which is it?
"I have scratched LSU," Liggins told 247Sports. "I was thinking about it real hard (Monday) night. I called LSU today and told them they were out."
Liggins will now turn his attention to two in-state schools: Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
"I just want to stay in Mississippi and represent my state," he said. "I love my state. I want to help bring a national championship to Mississippi."

It's not that complicated, breaux. The quote you posted is from a week ago.
He changed his mind. It’s that simple. LSU realized they had to promise him a shot at QB after he told them to fuck off. They ponied up and told him he’d be given the chance to play QB and that he was their only QB taken this year. They are an NC caliber program, neither us nor state are such. Game over.
I'm just reminding the people of the irony doush..
by Geaux To Hell LSU on Jan 30, 2012 3:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Perhaps read deeper..
Announcing for LSU could be Liggin’s ruse to disguise his real intention to chose Ole Miss tonight (his smoke screen) however ironic if not a smoke screen at all and his true intention is to play at LSU regardless of his week old professed love of playing in good ole MS? Interesting. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I hope your not one of the lawyers round here!
Like the pic though…prepare to die!
by Geaux To Hell LSU on Jan 30, 2012 4:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Still not irony. Announcing LSU this am, only to choose OM tonight is not irony, it's a lie.
If it’s not a “smoke screen” and he intends to play at LSU even though he talked about staying in MS last week, it’s still not ironic.
It sucks. It would be hurtful. It would be classic WAOM, but not ironic. Sorry professor.

I would go to LSU.
I don’t blame the kid – please remember how old he is.
Most of you need to grow up.
I'm a Rebel, but I bleed the cherry and silver of the Lobos.
You might want to read a few more posts above before scolding us youngins.
We (at least most of us) don’t care that he’s going to LSU, MSU or Saturn University. It’s how, where and what he’s doing to announce that is the problem. If he wants to go to LSU, fine by me. Hold the PC or whatever at his house or highschool, but not on the Square, in Oxford at an Ole Miss bar. If he shows up at Irie, grinning like a Cheshire Cat and says he’s going to LSU he deserves to be booed. Nothing more, and nothing less. Just booed.
If a Baton Rouge area 4* QB did this to LSU, you can bet your ass they’d boo. They’d do more than boo. Same goes for any other SEC hometown prospect.
In the interests of full disclosure, there are rumors this afternoon that he’s not going to show up at Irie, and that he’ll call in to do it. Which is better.
