For anyone who missed this, Derrick Nix was retained by Hugh Freeze as the Ole Miss running backs coach. Nix was a good recruiter for us in the past, and our O-Line has been so terrible over the past two years that I think it's hard to blame him for our recent running game woes.
The biggest thing about this move is that many Ole Miss fans believe (myself included) that it could help us keep I'Tavius Mathers, an important running back commitment. Mathers committed to Houston Nutt back in August, but he opened his recruitment back up after Nutt's firing. Hopefully, Nix will be able to solidify our standing with Mathers, who could come in and contribute immediately because of our lack of depth at the position.
