Rebel Roundup - January 20, 2012

Ole Miss Beats #18 Mississippi State | Clarion Ledger
This, along with recruiting, really has been the talk of the Ole Miss webosphere over the past day or so. It's incredible what a worthwhile victory can do to our collective fan spirit.

Ole Miss Hits Road Again, Takes on Georgia Bulldogs | OleMissSports.com
If the Rebels can somehow win an SEC game against a decent team on the road this weekend, then I will really start to believe that maybe they could make enough noise to let Andy Kennedy keep his job.

Where SEC Recruiting Stands Today | TeamSpeedKills
Going by the rankings of the four major recruiting services - Rivals, Scout, 247 and ESPN - Ole Miss is currently sitting at or near the bottom with a recruiting class comparable to those of Kentucky and Missouri. A two-win season and a coaching transitional year will do that, even after securing commitments from some pretty good talented prep players.

Ridgeway's Sheldon Dawson No Longer Committed to Memphis | Commercial Appeal
Dawson is a guy Ole Miss has been after for a long, long while. He's an athlete that we'd look to see in our secondary due to his size, speed, and tackling ability. He is wavering in his commitment to Memphis, though, and is likely to commit to Georgia, per sources.

Read this. You'll enjoy it. You might even laugh.

Grading Out the New Coaching Hires | SI.com
Ole Miss gets a B- form Stewart Mandel on the Hugh Freeze hire. Lauded are Freeze's successes at Arkansas State and his connections to Ole Miss, but criticized is his thin resume. Washington State got an A+ for their Mike Leach hire; Kansas got an F for their Charlie Weis hire.

Evan Anderson Commits to Ole Miss | NewsOK.com
Picking Ole Miss over Nebraska, the tall lefty cited our campus, coaches, and membership within the SEC as the reasons for his commitment. This is the second prospect Bianco has pulled out of Oklahoma, after Ty Hensley committed and signed with the Rebels last year.

Southern Miss Charges Into Billboard Battle | SBNation.com
You're saying "we had a good football team this year," but what I'm reading is "Please pay attention to us! :("

Barring another international altercation

AK will keep his job. I understand we haven’t made the NCAAT under him, his offensive scheme leaves a lot to be desired and all those good things. But at the end of the day his winning percentage is > 0.600, and Ole Miss will not fire someone who is winning that much as long has he finishes about .500 this year.

I love their billboard. Good for them.

I think it's pretty funny too

but let’s not pretend that it wasn’t directed at us just as much as it was directed at state.
