Robert Conyers, a 6'5" 277 lb. offensive tackle out of Miami, Florida, committed to Ole Miss on Saturday while on an unofficial visit. Conyers, a three-star recruit and top target of Matt Luke, had offers from 10 BCS schools (including Vanderbilt, Illinois, and Michigan State).

The commitment came on a day when Coach Freeze and his staff had decided to part ways with the previously committed Jake Meador, an offensive tackle that had recently softened on his commitment. It is believed that neither Meador nor the Ole Miss coaching staff were convinced that his skills matched up with Coach Freeze's offensive philosophy.

Conyers will return to Oxford for his official visit on January 27 with several other key recruits, a visit in which he could help influence other top Ole Miss targets as they take their final visit before National Signing Day.

Meador was a Markuson fan, meaning that he

was down with being big, fat, strong, and slow.

Nothing against Meador, but if that’s the type of OL he wants to be, then he won’t at all fit in Freeze’s offensive system.

Agreed.......

to run the spread offense you need lineman that can move. the run game consist of traps and pulls for the lineman and you can’t be slow.

If Bo is as accurate a passer as Snead we should be able to move the ball with our receiving corps. Logan, Moncrief and Brassell should be a feared group of receivers with their talents, if someone can get them the ball. Scott and Thomas and the other RB’s should benefit in an offense that should be more balanced than the run first offense they have played in the past. An offense that will and can be able to throw on any down is much more difficult to defend.

I almost blame OM’s demise on Jevan Snead. If he had come back for his senior season and lead the team they could have easily finished with a winning record in 2010, and more momentum for the 2011 season that failed miserably. This would have kept the overall momentum of the program moving forward, while the young talent matured.

I don’t think we should underestimate the talent that is on this team, it needs to come together under consistent coaching in order to develop into a competitive team.

BYU finished 10-3 and beat us because of poor coaching. The team was talented enough to compete last year, maybe not for SEC championships, but they should have been 6-6. Which is more proof that a 6-6 record playing in the SEC is not that shabby. Look at how many 6-6 teams from the SEC end up beating school ranked higher in bowl games?

To be honest none of HDN’s teams won as many games as they should have, just poor coaching.

Really?

Snead hasn’t played in 2 years. And he never played defense. What the fuck are you talking about?

I don't mean to be a jerk

But do you really believe that we would have at least a 6-6 record in 2010 if Snead had stayed in school? We had nobody for him to throw to in 2010 and the O-line was atrocious that year. Not to mention he sucked on his own. We had Masoli (preseason PAC 10 POY) playing QB for us and could only manage 4 wins that season.

Meador runs a 5.50 40

Which is probably slower than the average Hoveround. His fat ass won’t be overlooking the Grand Canyon anytime soon.
Jokes aside, I hope he finds a good school for his talents.

I only see crootin' stuff on here this year and on the twitters too I suppose.

It’s kind a nice, ya dig.

Side bar/ question: Massie kind fits that bill too? More of a grinder then a mobile OL?

Yeah I agree.

I think Massie adequately fits Ghost’s description of Jake Meador above. I would assume Markuson’s leaving impacted Massie’s decision to leave early to play in the CFL the NFL.

I always say 'beer me.' It gets a laugh, like, a quarter of the time.
