Why all is not lost...

Disclaimer: Still buzzed so sorry for the grammatical errors and cursing.

Yeah the loss against BYU sucked. We should have won that game and I think everyone that suited up for the Rebs knows it. Thing is BYU is a respectable team when compared to the likes of Jacksonville State. It is only one game and there is still hope. This season can still be a turn around from last year. Why you ask? Well here goes my take.

First the D looked way better than I thought it would. Hell they played great except for 3 and whatever situations. The first thing I noticed tonight was that the D decided to actually wrap up on the tackle instead of that horseshit they pulled last year. The landsharks were back although there is still work to be done. They showed an urgency to get to the QB that was missing last year. The coverage was way better than last year although that really isn’t saying much. A few tweaks here and there and we should be ok.

Second the passing game looked great with Zach throwing the ball. What an arm this guy has. If our young receiving corps can bring those passes in we could have a good air attack this year. Yeah Snoop dropped an easy TD. Hey shit happens with freshmen but they will learn and in the end they could be game changers with a few more games under their belt. This team has a new offensive coordinator, a new QB, and a new receiving corps. It will take some time for it to click but the pieces are there.

Finally the specail teams game really looked good. Sure they out kicked the coverage but when your punter is booting long kicks, is that a bad thing? The return game looked good as well. Jeff Scott was born to return kicks. He will take a few to the house this year. It is just a shame he didn’t against BYU.

The one worry I have is the fascination with TE screens and HB draws on 3 and fucking forever. Coaching staff please throw that crap away and go for a first down on 3rd downs. Those plays guarantee a kick and in a close game such as the one we had tonight, the rock is a precious commodity. Don’t give it away.

This team is better than last year. These Rebs can win. In the SEC any team can beat anyone on Saturday. It takes just a little bit of luck and a ton of heart. These Rebels can step up to the task. The question is will they? I’ll be cheering them on as they go through the season to find out if they can step up. Have a great night everyone, drink up. Week two begins tomorrow. Hotty Toddy.
