Another group of WRs with butter fingers...

I've already said my piece about the loss to Vanderbilt and I'll just say again that we played terribly flat. A trend that I'm noticing, in which was even more evident in today's game, is that we put receivers on the field who just absolutely refuse to catch/fight for the ball when it's in the air. Is this a product of our recruits or our coaches? Your guess is as good as mine.

Watching the game today it was obvious that our receivers not only could not catch the ball but at times acted like they didn't even want to catch it. Maybe they heard foot steps? Maybe we don't do enough pass receiving drills in practice? Bottom line being if we could actually have one maybe two WRs who would step up and be a ball hog and a "go getter" when the ball is in the air, that fixes one of the BIGGER problems of our offense.

Need I even bring up the pass Nick Brassell dropped in the end zone against BYU which gives us the go ahead score. And I don't even want to get started on that guy named Markeith Summers.

I was in

Tennessee visiting family this weekend and listening to the game on the radio while driving (I only watched the first 6 mins of the third quarter on TV, after that I switched it off). I was listening to the Vandy broadcast early in the second quarter and they made a comment about this very thing. I believe the name they called out was Derrick Herman on a crossing route- said he basically quit on a catchable ball across the middle because there were defenders near him. They did everything but call him a sissy on-air. They made this comment more than once while I was listening- and this was while the game was still scoreless.

I remember exactly the play you're referring to, because I remember making a comment about thinking he had money on Vandy.

Herman went on a short cross/drag route (didn’t see enough to know exactly what it was) and the ball was thrown a bit in front of him. He had his hands out for the pass, and then right before the ball got to him, he pulled his hands back. The pass was far enough out in front of him it wouldn’t have been an easy catch, but he possibly could have made it, but the point is he didn’t even try.

The worst part about it? There weren’t even any defenders about to hit him. If he’d caught it he would’ve gained some yards.

The only receiver who really seems to fight for the ball is Logan, one of the few players (especially on offense) who actually showed up on Saturday.

Ole Miss: #1 in partying, mediocre in athletics and academics since 1848.
