Like you, I have grown accustomed to heartening optimism followed by suffocating disappointment. These trademarks basically follow nearly every team that I have followed. If you are not an NBA fan, I do understand, but I argue that following a team in the NBA is one of the more fulfilling sports pursuits due to frequency of play and TV availability. If you are looking for a team, I have a suggestion . . .
The Grizzlies are the Rebels of the NBA. This is not solely due to proximity. They are a Franchise in the toughest division and have encountered more temple-massaging mistakes in 10 years than most teams will make in their existence. The Grizzlies have made it to the playoffs four times now, and until last night, they have left winless. Freak plays, blown calls, and crippling self-destruction have all contributed to these losses (sounds familiar?). Through hard work, fast breaks, and tenacious D, the Grizzlies have turned a lot of heads this season, even causing some (Sir Charles) to pick us to win the series.
Last night they took the Spurs at home. And despite not having their then leading scorer Rudy Gay, I think they will continue a run with moving onto the second round. This is just one Rebel to another. Go Grizzlies. Enjoy NBA bashing in the comments. If only the all-white NBA had worked out, you would have more to talk about . . .
