Heard we offered Frank Wilson from LSU to come back as OC in title..
Don’t know if he would leave though. He is a fantastic recruiter. He is at his dream job, much like Freeze, but only as a RB coach and recruiter. We would hire him as OC and recruiter. Although he wouldn’t actually do anything because Freeze is the OC.
Also heard Larry Porter’s name thrown around but i don’t expect much to come from that. We have a guy from Southern’s staff coming as a recruiter.
Lastly some of my MSUx friends are saying Hughes has been contacted by Freeze about coming…
Again, i have little to no proof on these as i don’t exactly have “sources”.. Lol.

Wilson sounds interesting...
I’ve heard that about Wilson, too, and it might be interesting if he and Freeze are on the same page with the Spread option. Wondered if Ark State’s receivers and QB coaches would be coming along. I am still hopeful we can get some more SEC veterans to help the new staff catch up on the league. There is so much to do getting your own team established that it really helps if someone already knows the ins and outs of the opposing teams, systems, venues, etc.
Arky State's QB Coach was Grant Heard
I imagine that he would already be here if he was coming.
Maybe Freeze is trying to figure out what to do with Brewer before he does anything else on offense. I used to think that Brewer would be promoted to OC, but I don’t think that’s the case. Freeze was his own OC and I think he would rather keep someone he doesn’t know much about at WR.
I do think that he keeps Brewer though – to both keep the recruiting class together and to learn as much as possible about OK State’s offense. Also, I hope he learned something from Nutt’s mistake of not keeping him.
If that’s the case, we still need:
RB
OL
QB?
DBs
Another wild card? Recruiting Coordinater is already at TE, so you could really get specific with this. Either a dedicated special teams guy? or split the DBs or DL.
I guess this will wait until the dead period. One think I wouldn’t mind seeing him do is hiring an old HC in the twilight of his career, just to give him advice on handling alumni/ running a program in the SEC. Someone like Torbush when he was at State.
I really like Keith Burns
I understand his ties to Nutt would make this difficult, but I would personally like to see him stay on as the defensive backs coach. I think Brewer and Burns were the only coaches this year worth a damn.
Spread Option Experience
I’d like to poach someone like Zach Azzanni. He used to be at Florida and is the OC at Western Kentucky. I bet he still has some recruiting connections in Florida, and it’d be smart to have someone on staff with access to those recruits.
Aren't we Ole Miss by damn?
So was the 3.5 mill estimate correct?
Because that would mean we could have a 2 mill staff. I like our odds of picking up a big-name DC with that. Or do I need to wake up?
Dave Wommack is the DC.
Freeze officially introduced him yesterday.

Yeah, I wondered if Freeze spoke too early at the presser....
Freeze mentioned the four guys officially announced Thursday in his presser earlier in the week….so I wondered if he had spoken too early before the ink had dried on their respective contracts. Glad to see them all, and welcome aboard. Wommack had a lot of autonomy at Georgia Tech under Paul Johnson (another HC who serves as his own OC) but in two years did not exactly wow everybody, even though they won an ACC championship there. Wommack has a lot of experience and is well-respected by his peers, but the SEC is so much tougher than the ACC and Sunbelt. It ain’t too sexy, but Freeze really needs to make sure he has some sound administrators and some SEC-savvy coaches among his future hires. I also hope he keeps Gunter Brewer for some continuity, and I hope we all realize it’s going to take a while to get this thing turned around.
