Couple questions?

As a Rebel fan who travels a lot, gets no watercooler talk, and gets all his UMAA news from this site or what a Google search can turn up, could someone help me out with a couple of questions:

Star-divide

What did Mackey and Scott do to get suspended for the last two games, and are they likely to be back next year?

My wife, who is a physician, was told by one of her colleagues (who's from Peru) that his son in the Ole Miss Band had urine poured/sprayed on him and other band members in Starkville last week. He asked her if this was normal behavior there. Did anyone else hear about this?

Can anyone provide more insight into what the 'discipline' comments from the players (Brunetti and Singleton I think) were really about?

Thanks - Hotty Toddy!

I'll do my best.

A) Mackey and Scott tested positive for drugs, again.

B) Yeah, that’s normal. State fans are assholes.

C) The Brunetti comment (Singleton’s comment was more about offensive style) was that he felt the team wasn’t disciplined enough this year. I don’t know what he’s referring to in particular, but my guess is that, towards the end of the year, the coaches were very lax during workouts, practices, and so forth. When you’re getting beat by LA Tech because they are just trying harder, such becomes obvious.

Thanks

A) disappoints me but doesn’t surprise me. Not just those two as individuals, but that your leading rusher and starting quarterback are able to be such without their heads screwed on straight.

Re Starkville behavior -

I had not heard about the band, but have talked with a player’s father who said the verbal abuse of OM players and their families by MSU fans after the game was horrible.

To put that in some context, every SEC school except MSU cordons off an area around the visiting team’s buses where parents can visit with their sons for a few minutes after the game & before the buses leave. At MSU, our players and their families had to run a gauntlet of cowbell-ringing, profanity-shouting rednecks to get to the buses, and then only had a few square feet to visit under the glare and abuse of the Bulldog fans.

Memo to new A.D. – Bulldog buses to park no closer to VHS than the baseball field. Make coaches and players alike walk to & from the stadium through the woods.

Someone refresh my memory, but wasn't there an incident (fight) by our team buses a couple of years ago after the game?

I seem to remember an obnoxious fan was incessantly ringing his cowbell and shouting obscenities while the parents were hugging their kids, and things escalated from there.

There is NO good reason to allow home fans anywhere near the opposing team’s bus. And speaking of courtesy to opposing teams fans, I can’t tell you how many people (and I have lived all over the Southeast) say they love coming to Oxford because of the hospitality.

The cowbells have to go.

Even the ESPN commentators pointed out that the fans were incapable of not ringing them during plays. And if the SEC isn’t going to do something, I see no reason why we shouldn’t all bring air-horns to the Egg Bowl next year. Laser-pointers would also be effective.

Here's the Thing

I agree that State is shitty to us. Real shitty. When I was working media I had to go to a game at the Hump and their security person, noticing that I had an Ole Miss sticker on my car, gave me “directions” to the media parking lot since their parking pass didn’t indicate which lot it was. Yeah, the asshole gave me directions on how to get back on the fucking highway. When I circled back around and told him that I knew he had intentionally given me the wrong directions, he told me to “park your fucking car in a lake for all I care.” Stay classy, Starkville.

BUT I don’t care how bad they are to us, I don’t want us doing the same to them. I don’t want people going out and telling the world that we do the same kinds of shit that they do. I’d like to think we’re above that classless shit. Let them look like the assholes, but I don’t ever want to sink to their level. Ever.

Not all the way.

I knew something was up before then and that’s where the asshat was sending me.

Besides, the Hump is pretty close to the highway anyway.

I have been saying...

since the last world cup at least, that Ole Miss should hand out vouvouzelas (SP?) to the student section for the next home egg bowl.

hell no

I’d rather watch us lose to La Tech every week than listen to those things. Every time I tried to watch the Cup it sounded like a giant fucking mosquito was in my ear.

It would take one game....

And the rule would “get changed”. We should at least have an “espionage” unit in the athletics department and send people to blow them at Davis-Wade.

I'd rather

everyone just get cowbells and use them against moo-u when they have the ball.

It probably wasn't really urine, just the local drinking water....it's about the same there.

Everyone has horror stories about visiting-team abuses, and some of them are even true. I remember my companions and I (including 3 ladies) being bombarded with glass beer bottles and countless obscenities after a game in Athens. One of the bottles (thrown from condo balconies near our parking lot) hit home and required hospitalization of my best friend. I’ve heard of similar things in Starkville but haven’t experienced it firsthand.

Don't sink to their level....really

I agree that we can’t sink to their level. I don’t see anything wrong with formally petitioning or even a simple AD request of the SEC to provide adequate security for the team and their families. As for visiting State, just don’t go if you continue to find yourself in dangerous or unpleasant situations. Make a point of letting Ole Miss AD and the SEC general office know why you aren’t going, in writing. Some of our fans can be abusive, I’m sure, so we shouldn’t be too righteous in our proclamations. I do agree the cowbells are really too much. If they can stop a flask, a gun, or a knife from getting into a stadium, surely they can stop a cowbell if they really want to. SEC enforcement is a joke.

the cowbell is a fucking weapon. A metal object on a handle is a dangerous thing when jealous loathing Idiots have them to wield around in the face of their enemy. I would like to see them banned for making extremely annoying artificial noise but it won’t be until some Ole Miss fan publicly gets their face bashed in by an idiot with a cowbell.

Maybe BrandonBP (is that a gas station?) will sacrifice himself.

I’ll be happy to “impersonate” a bash-happy bell-ringing Dawg.

I didn't come here to be nice.
