Checking in

from the ATL. Looking forward to this one. Glad to hear Kendrick is playing, hope he can help Rebels win today. Experts say Rebs are 4 point underdogs.

Checking in from Madison, MS

Looking forward to seeing Kendrick. Hopefully, we get off to a better start than we did the other night against ULaLa.

Long shot.

Does ANYONE know a radio station inside LA that will play the game? All the one on the mothership say Mississippi. I’m on my way to New Orleans and the Mccomb station’s signal is getting too faint.

Only two people in the world have the easy-flow elbow, and one of them happens to be named Bruce Willis...

Something that just really bothers me

The fact that Larry Eustachy is drinking a DIET COKE while coaching this game. That and our Defense is AWFUL when Murph isn’t in the game.

Terrance Henry fouls a lot

You would think we could have figured out a way to correct this problem over his four-year career. Also, our defense and rebounding takes a noticeable nosedive whenever Demarco Cox is on the floor in this game.

Why did we not get the ball after the technical?

This game is highlighting all the reasons

I’m still somewhat skeptical about our chances of getting to the Dance this season. We are being outhustled and outexecuted by a team we are clearly superior to in talent and athleticism. We also don’t have a ton of scoring threats other than Dundrecous right now.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:08 PM EST reply actions

Southern Miss plays pretty fundamentally sound ball.

They’re a pretty quality CUSA team, for whatever that’s worth.

I don't disagree

This is just a team we should be able to beat

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed.

“Should be able to” seems to be the narrative of every AK team.

Yep, very true

I still expect us to pull it out near the end and win this game, but we should be winning by about 15 right now instead of trailing by 5.

I was about to post the same thing

Summers has not played particularly well today.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

Man, we foul way too much

And the fouls are usually really dumb fouls. Another similar refrain of an AK-coached team.

Summers has struggled tonight, but Henry has played really well.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:17 PM EST reply actions

77-74 USM with 2:11 left

Rebs cut it to one and had the ball, then a forced airball from Nelson and a dumb foul by Henry allows USM to push the lead back to 3.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:29 PM EST reply actions

Summer...

has killed us with those wild runners in the lane. That shot by earlier by Nelson was atrocious.

by Turkeylegs on Dec 17, 2011 6:32 PM EST reply actions

Rebs down 82-76 with 30 secs left

Gave this one away after some dumb offensive decisions and playing virtually no defense in the last 2 mins. Definitely a game we should have won (and a game that a tournament team would have won- USM is going to be a mid-tier CUSA team this season). Another frustrating season.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 6:34 PM EST reply actions

Is it really too much to expect

an AK-coached team to execute well and make decent decisions? It gets old watching his teams underperform against mediocre opponents.

The ally oop was tough. Thanks for the sportspersonship, larry.

It sucks because I fully felt we’d pull ahead in the next minute. Ran out of minutes. Nelson made terrible decisions at the end. Henry looked great. What the fuck?

by Old HWY 6 on Dec 17, 2011 6:40 PM EST reply actions

We had our chance to pull ahead

when the game was tied 72-72 (I think?) and we had the ball with about a minute left. Unfortunately, we ended up with Nelson airballing a jumper and another player committing a dumb foul that allowed them to up the lead. That possession would have been a good time for a decent coach to call a TO and have everyone gather their breath and set up an offensive attack plan.

Opinion

I am tired of watching these kind of games. I think we have some really talented players and I do not think AK is a good coach at all. It is still early in the season but losing to USM hurts and Kennedy refuses to do anything different than he did five years ago. Pass pass pass around the perimeter and forcing one player to make his move and make a tough shot. It’s disheartening

"Dont taze me bro"

by Bringing the Pena on Dec 17, 2011 7:22 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Guess you missed football season...

There was more of the run run run between the tackles to no avail. You’d be a little happier about the “pass pass pass around the perimeter” attitude… Just sayin’

by stampman4390 on Dec 17, 2011 7:38 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

So I watched the first half

And missed the second. The turnovers were killing us. Did that continue? Or did we start doing something else wrong?

by stampman4390 on Dec 17, 2011 7:43 PM EST via iPhone app reply actions

Turnovers actually improved

We lost because they out hustled and out executed us. If you’re looking for specific issues in the second half that cost us the game, we quit guarding the three-point line and took some awfully dumb shots down the stretch.

by bball1984 on Dec 17, 2011 8:54 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

those off-balanced leaners from the FT line corners Jarvis took over and over...

… don’t show up in the box score as turnovers, but it’s the same thing. He must have done that 6 times int he second half and only hit the one. Between those shots and that foul Dundrecous picked up 70 feet away from the basket, and our refusal to get back and guard in transistion, it’s enough to drive a man to drink. (Actually, the Runiation was coming out win or lose, but still).

I listen for the voice inside my head... nothin... I'll do this one myself

I kInda believe that AK is

coaching for his job this season. I don’t know if the new AD will want to make his first move a firing, but we’ll see. I’ll withhold judgment until the end of the season- maybe AK will be able to turn it around. We’ve seen this same stOru played out seeemingly every season since he’s been here though. He’s had more than enough talent and a relatively weak SEC west to have gotten the job done by now.
