Ole Miss Rebels and the search for a new Athletic Director

For many Rebel fans, Monday, November 7 is a day that will go down as one that will never be forgotten. It was announced that both Ole Miss Head Football Coach Houston Nutt, and Athletic Director Pete Boone will no longer be part of the Rebel family. Nutt will be out once the clock strikes double zero on the Egg Bowl, while Pete Boone will be out once a successor is hired.

Rebel fans are speculating as to who they want to replace Coach Nutt, who as of this week owns a 24-23 record going into this weekend's Homecoming Game against Louisiana Tech. But the real intriguing search is the one for Athletic Director, which will be led by a committee that will be co-chaired by former Ole Miss All-American Quarterback Archie Manning and Fed-Ex Executive Vice President and Ole Miss Alum Mike Glenn.

In the opinion of some, the new AD should have no ties to Ole Miss whatsoever. Others believe that the new AD should have ties to the university. In any case, the new AD must bring a new, exciting, and energetic approach to Ole Miss Athletics that will help the programs on campus, not just football, be successful and sustain that success for many years to come.

The new AD must also be able to collaborate on a regular basis with boosters and alumni, and give them regular updates on the current state of the Athletics Department and have regular conversations with prominent supporters to see what ideas they have that may improve athletics and keep the department a driving force in the Southeastern Conference.

So who would be the right person for that job? Only time will tell, but it would be very interesting to see who some of the Rebel faithful feel who that right person is.
