I'm checking in from Talladega, Alabama.
If you clicked on thru to that ESPN article about Dean Faulkner Wells yesterday, you know she called it “An Alabama madness when nothing matter but speed, danger, courage and winning.” Should be fun.
And if the Rebels win, feel free to never let me live it down.

Planned on making it today…but made the executive order not to after the wife came down with the flu Thurs, figured someone’s gotta keep an eye on my 6 month old. Don’t worry, ESPN3 has the game so ill be tuned. Hoping for the upset but realistically I think it’ll be worse than the Bama game.

Ok....here's the deal:
HDN (as we’ve heard ad nauseum) has a history of winning a game that he shouldn’t. This is that game. Today, we find out whether or not Bama broke us, or opened the players eyes and really motivated them. If you read some of the player interviews from this past week, you kinda got the idea that the latter may have happened. Having said that, I’m not sold on a win today. I’d just like to see something respectable today.
i thought that before the Georgia game

those “sneaky” wins typically take place late in the season. You know, once its too late to salvage the season, but its NOT too late to salvage his job!
If Sawyer has 2 picks and Brassell actually will catch the ball we might have a chance but I don’t see it happening especially now that we don’t have Dorsey and Temple.

It all depends:

What???
Is our offensive line PUSHING someone???
Amazing!
So how does a team dominate its way down the field and STILL punt? Now we know……
well there was our one series,....
Now the defense will adjust and we’ll go back to our horribly predictable offense.
We need a O-coord who can game plan a WHOLE game instead of just the opening series.

We should hire a 12 year old kid....
give him a PSP controller, and let him go wild. Definite improvement!
The number of Ark fans at the game became evident when the crowd got loud when we had 3rd and 2.
Cant’ complain, though. I’m sitting my happy ass in B’ham despite the fact I have a pre-paid rental house and tent setup in the Grove.
I had the same thought...

Beat pigs and mutts, fire Boone, and if Nutt STILL sucks next year, THEN we get a real coach.

Basically, Nutt just described everything that we HAVEN’T been doing offensively this season……
I'm just going to toss this out there-

Damn ridiculous
No whistle means you can’t call a late hit. It’s that simple.
So....
If we down a punt on the 1 with our foot in the end zone, it’s a touchback. If we recover a fumble on the 1 with our foot in the end zone, ball on 1.
Ah, behold the rules of football.
Should have read your post.
Needless to say, my thoughts exactly.
Lots of questionable calls in this game. However, I’m not blaming the refs, they’ve gone both ways, and we’d be losing regardless.
If you catch the ball with the bottom half of your body out of bounds, it's incomplete
but if you recover a fumble with the bottom half of your body in the endzone, it’s spotted at the one. WHAT THE HELL?

"Keep on fighting! Don't let go of that rope!"
Do us a favor and let go Houston.
why run in the endzone w/ Scott
OH WHY!!!!

This loss
will hurt worse than the Bama Blowout… because for a while there I really believed we would win.
I said something about our defense playing well earlier.
I’m sorry, Sports Gods. I didn’t mean to be giddy.

Unfortunately...
…Tyler Wilson has really been off with his passes today. Our big plays have all been runs after a short pass or Dennis Johnson rushing. Come on Tyler, get it together.
But still.
Shut the fuck up.
"There's no better way to say 'I'm a badass' than the thumbs up. It's so hot right now."
Really?
You come here and be a dick when we’re all already pissed and you want to talk about Southern hospitality?
"There's no better way to say 'I'm a badass' than the thumbs up. It's so hot right now."
I think the plan here is to go back to the copetent offense we have left.
The adjusted to the speedy outside run. So we should go for more of the dink and dunk passes. Some quick slants, curl routes, and screens. Then throw in the go routes with fades and posts that have worked for us so far outside of a dropped ball and a ball that hit the defender in the back. Make them respect the pass again and then bring back some running plays.
This is going to be Legen...wait for it....Dary!-Barney Stinson
I want to drive to Oxford and punch Nutt in the face.
It’s obvious we have extremely competent players. Of course he waits half the season to utilize them (aka Dexter McCluster). I am a 22 year old GIRL and I could lead a team to a W against his coaching. Running it up the middle in the endzone with Scott? WTF?!?!?! I just feel sorry for our team being coached by an obvious lunatic. He does the exact opposite of what makes sense. And then when something works, he never does it again. I know this is beating a dead horse, but damn. I am probably going to fail my test Monday morning because I’ve been sucked in to another Saturday trying to comprehend the lunacy that is Ole Miss football. Nutt needs to stop hotboxing/reading bedtime stories to our players at half time.
If the would just settle down right here...
and run the offense that they know they can, we might still have a chance. The defense needs a breather BAD!
Does Nutt not realize that they know when we are running the speed sweep now.
It has gone for negative yardage this entire half.

I don't think he realizes anything.

do we not have a quick slant in our playbook?
by TheBrickwall on Oct 22, 2011 3:24 PM EDT via iPhone app reply actions
Our best play this season
has been “the punt”
Apparently Nutt replaced any idea of quick slant
with delay hand offs and runs from 15 yards back of the line of scrimmage.

I hate being an Ole Miss fan.
They spotted us 17 and are still going to beat our ass, and we all anticipated it.
Serious question, if in some crazy way Nutt keeps his job, does he have to fire
every coach on staff?
As long as Boone's gone
I care less about Nutt being there or not. If he survives, it won’t be for more than a year. Get rid of Boone, and we may have a future.
by duker on Oct 22, 2011 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
We have to fire Boone first
We don’t need him choosing our next coach
The only coaches I think we should keep are Burns and Brewer
the rest can go their merry fucking way. Especially Nix who seems incapable of in game adjustments on defense and has absolutely no clue how to defend the spread.
This is going to be Legen...wait for it....Dary!-Barney Stinson
Don't think that will happen, but he'd have to fire Nix, for sure,
that’d free up half a million, by itself.

Seriously. I can only hope we can get our shit together like you have sooner rather than later.
Thanks man
I wish you guys luck in the house cleaning in your athletic department. Still, dollars to donuts that it’ll take you one more year to get rid of Nutt. Boone’s probably gone though.
I think we would all prefer a competent AD
before axing Nutt.

Immediately followed by a graphic showing that Ole Miss has 12 penalties on the day. Awesome show great job Dave Neal.

So I was thinking that it would probably be a good idea to get rid of Boone
before the season is over that way we could potentially get a new AD by late December. And hopefully the new AD would give Nutt the riot act and help in getting some better assistants in. Plus it might show recruits and the fan base that we are committed to correcting things as soon as possible. I was thinking before the Magnolia Bowl would be great that way the fan base will be extra excited and energized, our players will maybe get some confidence back in the program, and recruits will see we are making steps in the right direction.

Whats really bad here...
Is that we’re NOT getting blown out, and yet somehow its even MORE embarrassing than getting facepalmed by Bama last week!
Andre Ware won the Heisman and is now broadcasting and on said broadcast
where he is commentating their featured Heisman moment is about him? Whoa, you guys. I had no idea.
Mackey has some fight in him.
There is no reason that we should not have a good football team next year, if we can retain Brassell, Golson, Johnson, Moncrief, SIngleton, Mackey, et al. through the impending coaching change.
Which is why
we really need to ditch Nutt now before it starts to look like he’s competent again through his talented players.
YES!
Down two scores, no time left, and we………….RUN UP THE MIDDLE!!!!

Goddamn penalties and playcalling.
Our offensive gameplan was solid. But that motherfucking stretch off tackle with Jeff Scott in the endzone was asking for a safety. If you’re going to run out the endzone, why not use the big guy and run straight up the middle? Did Houston Nutt not pass high school geometry? Running parallel to the line of scrimmage in our own endzone is fucking insane.
And I’m going to have to write a letter to Bradley Sowell and Matt Hall and ask them “When the quarterback tells you the snap-count, what are you usually listening to?”

Is that, despite all of this shit, we have talent out there. Talent that actually still gives a damn. And in spite of the godawful coaching, they are trying like hell to find their way into a win. I’m pretty much over moral victories, and mostly dead inside, shelled out like a carved gourd, when I think about this season. What my Scorecenter write-up had to say about the game:
“The Razorbacks kept the momentum in the second half, buoyed by a stadium that had a neutral-field atmosphere because of the thousands of Arkansas fans who travelled across the Mississippi River for the game.”
That should never happen.

i went to the game, so i missed all the game day thread..
i already hated arkansas and their fans. yesterday just inflamed my hatred. i attended the game with my dad, brother, and some other family who were razorback fans. that was fine, because the hog fans weren’t too passionate about the team.. they just happen to live in fayetteville, and my cousin taught at the university for a while. they were the only nice and clean arkansas fans i encountered. we were sitting right where the team runs out, just a few rows up. it was an exciting place to sit, and i am pretty sure barry brunetti’s mom was sitting right in front of us. i was really happy to be there with family on that beautiful day, you know? well, as you can imagine, our section had some arkansas fans sprinkled in there too. they didn’t shut up about houston nutt the entire game, as expected. every first down they got, they reminded me that it was “another razorback first down.” then, of course, there was the calling of the pig and also “WOOO GOO HAAWWWWGGZZZ” right before the second quarter began, i saw security booking it over to us. apparently, some arkansas fan started a fight in the stands. did i mention it wasn’t even 2nd quarter yet? as they escorted him out, i thought to myself, “how ridiculous can it get? it is such an early kick off and so early in the game.. how are you already throwing punches?” well, fellow cuppers, it got more ridiculous. my dad and i were chatting during a tv time out, and there was 6 minutes left in the first half. suddenly, the lady next to my dad urgently told him he needed to move, because the arkansas man behind us was vomiting on himself. yes, it was not even halftime and probably not quite noon either, and the man behind us was so piss-drunk already that he was puking right there where he sat. (luckily, the bench in front of us was empty, and we moved down and put some distance between us and the arkansas folk.) i don’t know how you get that drunk so early in the day. i also do not know why he portrayed such behavior because he was a grown man.. not some asshole student but a grown man. i thought most adults left that kind of behavior behind in their freshman year of college. anyway, he continued to vomit on and off for a while, and then passed out sitting in his seat. later on, one of his companions kicked over their drink, which spilled down to our seats, effectively making the place reek of whiskey. i expect that kind of stuff in the student section.. but we were in a nice area and we had a 4 year old child with us. so, thank you, arkansas fans for nearly ruining a fine day with my family at our beloved university. for once, it wasn’t our shitty team that had me rolling my eyes, but instead it was the embarrassing people representing university of arkansas. congratulations on your win, pigs.

I want to sincerely apologize...
for a fellow Arkansas fan ruining your family’s day. It is unfortunate, but true, that every fan base has their terrible, ridiculous fans with which you hate to be associated. I was fortunate enough to attend the Arkansas-Ole Miss game in ’05 in Oxford. It was a beautiful campus, and the home fans were very gracious and hospitable. I promise that all Arkansas fans do not act like the guy who put us to shame on Saturday.
As for the game, your guys played their butts off and I was impressed. I hope you folks find a new coach. (I still dislike hdn, and I hope he is shunned from the SEC forever.)
Good luck on the rest of the season, you deserve to win some games.

I hate it when people get totally plastered in public. It isn’t cute when you are in college, it isn’t cute now. If you need to get that wasted please go to your own place where you can puke on your stuff and not have to been seen by others.

I fully expected something like that to happen to me but, to my bewilderment, it didn’t. Yeah, I got lots of “GO HAWGZZ” but that’s no different than me shouting a Hotty Toddy at a passerby. I was generally unaffected by the Hog fans. It seems that most of them drove in to town for the game and left soon after. I hardly saw any on the Square or around town, and the ones I did see were amicable or too hungover to be rude (there were about a dozen hungover-as-hell hog fans at Big Bad Breakfast on Sunday).
