Alamaba WR targets
This sucks
There's not much analysis anyone could glean from a beat down of that proportion. I wonder if Nutt will trumpet the worst home loss in 60 years the way he did back to back Cotton bowls for the first time in 50 years.
There was a definite shift in our targets though. Despite Moncrief and Logan getting the starts, they only got 4 targets between them (Logan - 3, Moncrief - 1) and 3 of those didn't happen until late in the 3rd quarter when the game was well out of hand. Moncrief's one target was a jump ball in the end zone after a Brassell catch set up 1st and goal.
The obviously beneficiary of this was Nick Brassell. He had 6 targets and cashed them in for 4 catches for 101 yards and got us inside the 2 yard line twice. Incredible game by Brassell, especially considering that he played 25 snaps on defense. My only criticism of him (hardly a criticism because he's the only guy that had a nice game) is that I think he could be even more of a weapon once he learns how to get interference calls when he has his man beat and out of position. Outside of Brassell's catches, we had 40 yards of offense - let that sink in. That's less than Alabama's 3rd leading rusher. Hell, our whole team only out rushed their 4th leading rusher by 6 yards.
We also tried to get Mosley involved. The first pass of the game was a great call for a TE delay to Mosley and he got two other targets throughout the game, but couldn't haul in another pass. Jeff Scott got 4 targets, but could only get 3 yards out of 3 catches. Neat had two targets and Melvin Harris had 1.
Here are the raw numbers for the season. Brassell is getting his catch rate up and really becoming a weapon. Still no incompletion thrown towards Ferbia Allen, but he hasn't been thrown a ball since Vanderbilt.
Just a note about our offense in general - 6 of our 11 drives had negative yards. Only 2 out of 11 went for more than 14 yards.

God bless you, sir
Can you imagine how fun this weekly update would be if Mike Leach (or someone similar) was our head coach?

This thread would look better.
But the overall game recap would be talking about how Alabama won 75-17 instead of 52-7.

I disagree.
In my opinion, the game slipped away from us when we ran up the middle with Enricky just before half time.
The team went into the lockerroom deflated and we came out flat in the 3Q – which we lost 28-0.
The dread pirate Leach would have attacked Bama with everything he had with 50 seconds before 1/2. Maybe we score to make it 17-14 or 17-10, but the bottom line is that he would have sent a message to his team that we were trying to win this game.
Maybe Alamaba just wore us down, but I think the team quit when Nutt gave up on the half. That wouldn’t have happened with a more agressinve coach.

Probably true about the offense.
But Leach’s teams would’ve already given up 30+ points to Bama anyway at that point.

I used to think the same thing
but when you look at Leach’s numbers at Tech, the defense is not as bad as you think. From 04 – 09, Leach’s teams only gave up 26.2, 18.8, 25.1, 25.9, 27.8, 22.5 points per game.
That’s not that much different than our numbers starting in 2004 – 25.3, 22.3, 22.9, 28.5, 19.0, 17.7, and last year’s 35.2.
I’m not saying that Leach is Nick Saben, but it’s not like he’s giving up 40 points per game. It’s also not bad when you consider how often his offense gives the ball back to the other team. During that time, he was scoring close to 40 per game.

Please refrain from your use of stats and facts
I would rather just believe what’s commonly accepted. Thanks. /everymessageboardposterever
