Ole Miss Band
Is it just me or is anyone else very disappointed in how our band performed this past weekend. I know of several occasions (1 - the entire 4th Qrt) that the Jack State Band completely took over. And what does our band do? NOTHING!
I know our band will never be like LSU or Bama's (because of funding) but seriously? Turn to the damn student section and play something when we need motivation, and do it more than once! Lastly, it is complete laziness on the director's part that the band's half time shows are rotated every few years or so.
If you play it, we will yell!

While I understand your point
the Led Zeppelin show they played Saturday was completely new.

Yeah I don't agree with this post at all
The band is told when they can and can’t play by the spirit coordinator. The band has to follow the orders of higher powers and doesn’t have free reign. I think they did an adequate job and work their butts off.
If the students need the band to get them motivated...
…our fan support is much worse than I thought.

When I was wit the Ole Miss Band
We never needed motivation, we were never out played. If that is true, what a sad day indeed.
That's ridiculous...
I was in the band for a while, back in the day, and while my years were supposedly a lot better than years past… no one was comparing us to LSU, Tennessee, or Alabama. Those guys have about a million music majors on full scholarship. We have a couple dozen, on partial scholarship, and most of the rest of the players are just filler.
That said, the band does work extremely hard, and the directors get a great output for as little as the University is willing to invest.
THAT said… we just suffered the most embarrassing loss of the entire college football season. Let’s not talk about stupid shit like students leaving at halftime, or the marching band.

Thanks for ignoring
the fact that we played every last down during both OTs, as well as that we play at least one piece every series.
Also, I’ve been in the band for five years now, and each halftme show has been different. I cannot recall having played a single halftime show twice while I’ve been here. Nice to know you pay attention.
Any time we don’t play, it’s either because we’re told not to (thanks to Marketing’s need to play commercials on the Powe-tron, injuries, or replays) or because we don’t have time to (30 second time outs, hurry-up offense).
Clearly, you don’t understand the first thing about the Band.

Yeah...
I understand everyone wants the team to focus in and win some games rather than have fans complain about the band or fan support.
However…
It was a little disheartening to see the spirit coordinator or whatever the hell it is not get the band up and playing. Even if it’s 30 seconds of dead time. Play while they play.
The answer?
Vuvuzelas for everyone.
If I predict it, there's an 50 percent chance it happens.

I can't really hear them from where I sit but I notice when they're playing.
I thought the Pride of the South played as much during the game as JSU. More than once, I noticed JSU’s band getting ready to start playing only to be interrupted by our guys.
I sort of agree but...
I went to go sit with my parents after half in S3 and could hear the JSU band blasting pretty loud the whole second half. They were totally annoying and WERE playing during plays and it kinda seems like they out played our band.
Now, I can’t be completely sure but I am PRETTY sure they played Dixie a few times during the 4th Quarter and into the OTs. Seriously. Dixie. Not kidding at all.

Alabama fan: So, are yew Auburn or Bama?
Me: Oh, actually I went to Ole Miss.
Alabama fan: Pshh...I'm sorry.
Since this topic is obviously not going to die...
Yes, JSU plays “Dixie”. They’re the only other school I know of besides Ole Miss that still plays it. In fact, both bands joined together on the field after the game Saturday and played “Dixie” and a few other songs.
As for them outplaying us, I’m sure they did. That school sinks a shit ton of money and support into that program – and has done so for decades. They’re better than any band in the SEC. They even have their own Drum & Bugle Corp. And, now I’m really letting my inner band nerd creep back after years of dormancy. So, I’ll shut up now.
You're right
They have a whale of a Music dept (except for Spirit, the broke off last year).

Also note that
they are considered one of the best collegiate bands in the country (if not THE best) and had around 100 members more than ours.

did anyone else hear the new FDWL-esque song?
if you were at the game you heard it. Couldnt really catch the whole thing, is there anywhere I may be able to listen to it online?
I don't really work or live in jackson now.......shit?

Not sure where to find it but I thought it sounded great.
If we cant have FDWL at least they found a great substitute.
It's brand spankin' new
An Ole Miss Band alum arranged it. Only place I can think of would be to try youtube, see if someone’s uploaded a video of the grove routine from Saturday.

One last thing and request for the band...
Someone should talk to Mr. Wilson about adding the 1978 classic “Hold the Line” by late ’70s/early ’80s hit-makers Toto during 3rd downs and goal line stands.
That would rule.

J-State
has a deep history with their band and I believe our band director is a J-state grad. Many band directors in the southeast are J-state grads.
Not to be an ass,
but the band needs more hot chicks if your going to get my attention… kinda like the lsu golden girls, and play something like “Shout”, or “Louie, Louie” to pay tribute to our party culture. I am usually mixing coctails/ hitting on chicks at haftime so.. sorry if i don’t pay attention…
I LOVE the Rebellettes..but they're seperate from the band more dance team/spirit
mostly I was being facetious and a wise ass
They are actually under the band if I'm not mistaken.
The athletic department does not directly sponsor them, but the band does. This is at least what I remember from talking to Mr. Wilson, whose wife is a former Rebellette, several years ago. This is why they practice at the band hall in addition to a private dance studio. Plus they are integrated with the band for marching shows during football season.
jax state also only plays one show a YEAR and they practice at least 15 hours a week to get it right with multiple directors and crazy funding and the are all majors….we on the other hand get to, somehow, get a group of 300 people to do the same thing and do it with 6 hours of practice and we do 4 shows and a grove reutine and we do it all on a around a 200,000 budget which is the lowest in the SEC oh and we dont get to pick what we play
