FIRE HOUSTON NUTT

Hell yes this is a knee jerk reaction. And hell yes, I'm drunk. I don't care. Fire Houston Nutt. Fire Tyrone Nix. Strip all of our defenders of their scholarships. If they're not willing to at least pretend like they're in the SEC, then fuck 'em. Fuck 'em hard.

Nah...

not a knee jerk reaction at all… you guys found a way to lose to an FCS team you outgained by over 100 yards. I’d be saying the exact same thing, and it wouldn’t change after sleeping on it.

What a turn of events. Who would have thought that in one weeks time we go from loving Nutt and hating Boone to hating Nutt and loving Boone. Our D went home with half the fans at halftime. This could be a long season. If I can manage to stay shitfaced through the season maybe it will just be a blur. Come on D step up like we know you can. Ah the life a being a Rebel. I can stomach a loss

Hell, we’re use to them. I can even excuse Masoli. He’s new to our playbook and to the team. But a loss on our own field, to a Div 2 school. Where was our defense? Did they go home with half of our fans at halftime? Speaking of.. fans, half of them leaving at halftime.. pathetic and disgraceful, the whole lot.

The coaches let off the gas

You see this happen to teams every season, big lead then play subs and then its hard to get that momentum back. We did it to smu in 97, came back and won it. Stanley is a lot better than I thought. We had too many turnovers and just thought they would quit, they didn’t. It sucks, and trust me as bad as you guys feel, its worse for the players…
This team has talent and will get better…

by hotstove97 on Sep 4, 2010 8:21 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

In my head, I know all this is true

I know it was a horrible combination of letting off the pressure so as not to run up the score on Jack Crowe, the defense feeling entitled in the 2nd half, Tyrone not bringing more than 3 on the last play of regulation, etc. Stanley showed promise and poise most of the time and I hope he remains the starter. Also this past week with the Masoli shit was a distraction. None of it is an excuse, obviously. But as horrible as we looked today, even drunk me knows that we have tons of potential. Obviously potential alone does not a good season make.

The coaches spent too much time experimenting on offense.

They kept switching between Stanley and Masoli when they should’ve stuck with Stanley. They showed no respect to Jacksonville State and it came back to bite them on the butt. So in a way I agree with you about them letting off the gas though I’d say I’m coming from a different point of view than you.

As for the defense…I have no answer there except Ole Miss has nobody that can cover. They stopped a lot of what JSU threw at them but that one roll out-pass to the flats play was never stopped, not once that I can recall, and we saw it 20+ times today. That’s pathetic.

by Wild Rebel on Sep 4, 2010 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

The offense

with the exception of the O-line played well. Both QBs looked good considering several times they had little or no time. If I remember correctly we only punted once. On the other hand the D sucked the second half.

But, even though I know we’re all just drunkenly venting and it’s mostly tongue in cheek…I don’t think this thread is justified yet. Yes, Nutt made a mistake going as conservative as he did. Certainly Nix made lots of mistakes, and so did the defense. (On that note I wonder how it would have been with Kentrell in the game.) But I hate that we’re just giving Arkansas fans more fodder for their circle-jerks where they talk about how much Nutt sucks and how he’s gonna submarine our program. I still think he’s a good coach. Well said

Definitely. And as I said, also embarrassing, is the half stadium of fans that left the game at halftime thinking it was over. Our defense got on the bus and left with those fans – which is why you didn’t even see them come out of the tunnel.

I was disappointed in the Rader hire when it happened. And I expected a lot more out of Tyrone or at least on the same level as the last 2 years. I guess the graduation of 35 players really has hit us hard and this is the 3-9, 4-8 season I thought it would be.

Yeah, I forgot the fans in my rant...

so here goes: If you buy a ticket to the game, stay until the end. End of story. I will never fault someone for wanting to chase girls, get hammered in the grove, or whatever else. If that is what you want to do- go ahead, but don’t buy a ticket to leave at halftime. It was embarrassing to see a half-empty stadium throughout the entire second half on TV. That probably played a tiny part in the loss. I would be pissed as a player if I just beat another team’s brains in and had a 31-10 lead at half, then came out only to see half the stadium was empty. Granted, our team didn’t deserve to have a full stadium there to watch their awful performance in the second half, but it certainly wouldn’t have hurt to have a more raucous crowd. I would even be ok if someone wanted to leave a couple minutes early in the fourth quarter to beat traffic if we had secured a win. But at halftime? Come on now. We have a very pedestrian fanbase to be sure.

The game that truly tested my resolve

Was against Florida in 2002. It was in a downpour, and I was in the lower deck, right on the dripline of rain cascading off the upper deck, in the endzone, and had a very good view of Casey Clausen’s numerous fumbles which Florida (Ron Zook coached Florida no less) turned into numerous touchdowns. But I stuck through it. Another bad one was Auburn 2004, but I was having too much fun heckling Charles Barkley on Auburn’s sidelines. :)

by danmarcel on Sep 6, 2010 1:11 AM EDT up reply actions

I’m pretty sure Gonzo just sat in front of his tv PRAYING for the game to end the way it did and then jump over here as quick as he could. It was probably one of the best moments of his life knowing that he could rub a loss in our gaping wounds. The that’s really fucking sad even for a fucking troll.

As far as Houston is concerned. The play calling was wayyyyyyyy too generic. Deli and I even joked while we were watching that we couldn’t wait for Gonzo to come on and say “See. Nutt only no’s how to run up the midle.” Tyrone Nix needs to crack some fucking skulls for allowing that end TD though for sure and someone needs to answer for the zone coverage.

Some thoughts...

I turned to my dad (who played ball at UM) after the game and said two things… “wow” and “worst game I have ever watched in this stadium.”

We lost this game because of Cutcliffe-like conservative playcalling and awful defense at every position. If I had to pick one player on D that pulled his weight it would be Johnny Brown bu that’s simplt because he wasn’t horrible. We didn’t contain well or cover receivers in the middle…. or deep for that matter.

Awful game all around and if you left at halftime when we were up so you could “get a drink”… thanks. Great fanbase.

by Hunter C. on Sep 4, 2010 10:56 PM EDT reply actions

I watched the whole thing on ESPN3...

But come on, it was a traditional cupcake clobbering until the third. People wanted to drink. And the team that I saw in the second half didn’t deserve an audience anyway. Shit. I wish no one saw it.

It really doesn't help we did not learn anything from Michigan

Why in the hell you would schedule a GOOD 1AA team (refuse to call it FCS), I have no idea. A good team knows how to win and doesn’t quit, it doesn’t matter the level they play at. So why did we play a top 20 1AA team. It would look the same beating the best 1AA team in the country as beating the worst as far as the polls are concerned. so if you are going to play a 1AA team play the worst one you can find.

I just got back to Memphis form Oxford

The game was horrible, I’m getting sick, and its a general miserable fucking day for me. That being said, I hope we use this game as motivation and a driving point for the rest of the season. Our players and coaches need to take a long hard look at this game and what they want to accomplish this season and come back next weekend with a new mentality. We did great in the first half and just let off the gas completely in the second. You cant do this no matter what team you are playing. I put most of the blame on the coaches, especially Tyrone. If the secondary starts off horrible next weekend, I would make it known that starting spots are not guaranteed at all. The other thing is I think we need to use Stanley more he was pretty great during the game.

That is something I was trying

to insinuate in my long rant above. Sometimes these terrible losses help everyone refocus and get the ball rolling in the right direction. If we can put it together then things may end up ok on the recruiting front. However, sometimes losses like this lead to a trainwreck of a season and a lot of fingerpointing and passing the blame. Something worth considering is how Masoli responds to all of this. His old team beat New Mexico 72-0 today and he just lost to a 1-AA school. We will see if he is as much of a leader as everyone has said he is. A bad season could really hurt in recruiting. If you were a kid sitting at home watching that game on TV, all you saw in the second half was poor coaching, poor effort, a loss to a 1-AA school, and a stadium that was about 40% full. Yikes. Again, hopefully we turn things around and this ends up being a rallying point for us.

Wish I could remember the exact words, but basically implied the NCAA realized that playing for Ole Miss WOULD BE punishment for Masoli. I can’t help but wonder if this IS some kind of karma. I know, I know, karma is bullshit, you make your own luck, blah-de-cakes.

Ole Miss has Nutt Cancer

I was raised a fan of Arkansas football before choosing to attend school at Ole Miss, and I am pretty familiar with this behavior from Coach Nutt. He was notorious for blowing large leads in games that should have been won… eventually leading to his removal from Fayetteville. I have been adamant about not joining in on “HOUSTON NUTT, HOUSTON NUTT” chants of overwhelming faith from the Ole Miss student body after a win, usually coming not weeks after an inexcusable loss to Wake, South Carolina, or Vandy. The disappointment is far from over as long as Nutt is in Oxford.

If my memory serves me correctly, Arkansas offered Nutt more money than we did.

by dogrebdolph on Sep 5, 2010 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions

That was in the day of the 3-headed monster.

The Goons running the show back then had a lot of garbage to hide, and Nutt was a part of the show.

If you can dish it, take it too.

If you remember, it was Ole Miss fans who came into Fayetteville and chanted “Houston, Houston, Houston!” That’s about as class-less as it gets. You can’t have it both ways. If you can dish it out, take it on the chin like a man when you number comes up. If Gonzo is getting under your skin, just ignore him. That’s the logical thing to do. There are trolls on every site, that’s a fact of message boards The truth of the matter is that us Arky’s were blinded by the Nutt charm as well, for way too long. I've only regularly been visiting this site a little over a month now.

But my main point is you’re far from the only fan of The Bacon that does this. Go to ESPN message boards. Go really to any place where a discussion of Ole Miss football is going on. There are always going to be Bacon fans ranting about Nutt and/or Ole Miss on there. You sometimes see more of them on Ole Miss discussions than you do Arkansas discussions. And it happened almost as soon as Ole Miss hired Nutt.

I get why Arkansas wouldn’t like Nutt. We had a somewhat similar situation with Tommy Tuberville, though I don’t ever recall Nutt saying he was definitely going to stay at Arkansas and the fans wanted him gone, unlike Ole Miss fans with Tuberville, so the situation isn’t identical. But the level of hate is astounding. As much as we disliked Tuberville I don’t think it ever came close to this here with him.

Just my two cents.

Houston Nutt seems to be getting an undue amount of the criticism here. We had similar problems with Tyrone Nix and his love affair with the prevent defense at USC.

Anywho, my condolences.

by The Feathered Warrior on Sep 5, 2010 12:06 AM EDT reply actions

This game exposed a serious flaw Nix has.

While he’s an excellent gameplanner, he seems to never adjust his defense during games. Ole Miss couldn’t stop the same damn play that JSU ran over and over and over and over and…well you get the picture. You’d think after seeing the same play after a while you’d stop it a few times, or maybe just once.

The defense wasn’t helped out by the fact they stayed on the field due to a poor showing by the offense in the second half either though. And this, I think, is where the criticism of Nutt is showing up, and it should be criticism of Rader as well. Ole Miss should have stuck with Stanley at QB in the 2nd half. While Masoli played well most of the game the switching of QBs kept the offense off-balance and they never seemed to get into a rhythm.

I’m not of the opinion anyone should be fired, but a lot of criticism can go around today. JSU is actually a very good team considering they’re a 1-AA team and I think they could surprise a number of 1-A teams, but there is no excuse for the loss today.

by Wild Rebel on Sep 5, 2010 12:33 AM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Exactly...

This game reminded me of the State game last year, in that they kept running the same dam play, over and over, and we never stopped it, or made any adjustment.

by Drebel on Sep 5, 2010 1:47 AM EDT up reply actions

That was a good example too.

The defense started out good in that game too. Then MSU made some adjustments, and suddenly Ole Miss couldn’t stop them. If Nix ever learns to make adjustments he could be a great defensive coordinator. He usually has the defense playing great at the beginning so you know he can gameplan. As it is now, if you can figure out where Ole Miss has a weakness you can run all over their defense. Luckily not everyone has been able to do that…yet.

Come on guys... You are still Ole Miss

This was a hiccup. One of those things that should have never happened but in the end will make your team stronger. May I mention our loss to Louisianna Monroe a couple of years ago but we are now defending National Champions? That loss became part of the “process” that led to a National Championship.

How about Florida’s loss to MSU a few years ago… how did that turn out for the Gators that year? Quite well I think.

Don’t kill them all yet… You are still Ole’ Miss.

You have to realize that despite some successes here and there Ole Miss fans are used to disappointment.

And we tend to go off the deep end when it comes to beating ourselves up. This is a perfect example of it.

I think we could still see a good team on the field—IF Ole Miss plays like they did in the first half for entire games. The offensive line does have to improve its blocking though, especially its run blocking. That pretty much sucked the 1st half and while it was the one thing that did seem to improve in the 2nd half it wasn’t a major improvement and I still see a lot of trouble once Ole Miss sees good defenses. The RBs played very well all things considered but they won’t be able to keep that up all year long once the defenses get better. JSU did get more than a few stops in the backfield because the RBs simply had nowhere to go. Barry Sanders in his prime wouldn’t have been able to do much on some plays today.

I’ll say this though, if Ole Miss manages to lose to Tulane next week I’m going to start seriously considering jumping on the fire-somebody bandwagon. I’m not a fan of firing a coach in the middle of the season short of some legal issues or something like that but it won’t be good if Ole Miss starts off 0-2 considering the competition.

Agree here.

Maybe Masoli was a distraction. He didn’t cost Ole Miss. He did throw an interception that led to a JSU score but you honestly can’t say that lost the game considering the other multitude of things that went wrong. If him being there cost Ole Miss it was because the coaches never seemed to settle on a quarterback and kept switching them out and getting the offense out of rhythm. But you can’t blame Masoli for that.

by qrsouther on Sep 5, 2010 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed...

Masoli didn’t have a great game, but the coaches pretty much handicapped him with the playcalling, so he really didn’t have a chance to play that well. Having said that, besides the interception he looked good, especially with the game on the line in OT.

I know people have been bashing Nutt for the conservative offensive play call in the second half (which I won’t say is undeserved), and I know people are complaining about the shifting QBs, but in my opinion this loss comes down solely on the defenses shoulders. Even with the offense scoring only 3 pts in the second half of regulation, 34 pts should be WAY more than enough to put away JSU.

I disagree... we dominated them the first half..

In the second half we played some 2nd & 3rd team d- lineman and didn’t blitz like we did in the first half. I think they had 100 total yards offense in the first half and 2 field goals. We didn’t punt the first half & we scored on every possesion,( except the turnover that led to their only td of the first half). The coaches and players lost their intensity in the second half.
I think Nutt let Masoli play more than he probably needed to. Stanley was playing great and we should have kept pushing the ball down the field and utlizing our speed on the corners. Stanley & Mackey got the reps in practice this last week, Stanley should and deserved by the way he played, to take the majority of snaps. Masoli will be good this year ,but for this game Stanley was the most prepared and the most successful in guiding us to TD’s. Stanley is going to be a Great QB for us for the next few years…

by hotstove97 on Sep 5, 2010 6:21 AM EDT up reply actions

This was an incredibly frustrating game to watch, and I can understand anyone calling for their coach to be fired after a FCS loss. Nutt will likely knock of ‘Bama or LSU though, because that’s just the way things seem to work out for him. How many wins would it take this season for him to get over the stigma of dropping this game?

by HawkeyedFrog on Sep 5, 2010 10:01 AM EDT reply actions

Unrealistic.

We win out, that would mean we get to Atlanta for the first time. We’d be undefeated in the SEC and likely on our way to a BCS bowl (though not the MNC unless we’re the absolute only one loss team). Let’s be honest, we’ll all be happy with Nutt if that happens.

That’s not going to happen though, so I suppose it’s a moot point.

After listening to morons like you spew out such idiocy,

it’s enlightning to know that your leaderless team has turned out to be the only SEC embarrassment on the opening Saturday of the 2010 college football season.

First, it was all of the drama surrounding Masoli and Nutt’s redicules excuses of how “I want to look him in the eye” and “We can help each other” philosiphy. Horse shit.
Then, it was the typical karma that follows him everywhere, losing to a team like JSU in OT.
Are you kidding me?

Vandi was the only other loss the SEC reported in the season openers, and even their 23-21 loss to Northwestern isn’t half as bad as Ole Miss losing in OT to a bunch of cocks. Pitiful.

Irony

So, do I point out the irony of being called a moron by someone who not only can’t spell the word, “enlightening”, but doesn’t really know how to use it, either?

by HandsomeSam on Sep 5, 2010 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

He also cant spell "ridiculous" or even "Vandy"

but this much I have come to expect from his hypocritical rants.

by Jalakin on Sep 5, 2010 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions

This is exactly why most of you have no credibility.

I remember making a post once upon a time here where I just happened to mention Vandy. (spelled with a y). Someone jump all over that one too, claiming it was actually spelled Vandi.
You people really are retarded. Maybe just a little twisted…drunk…which could lead to inbreeding.

by GonzoHog on Sep 5, 2010 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I have been reading this blog for a long time

and never once seen anyone spell Vandy incorrectly except for you. With the amount of hate and stupidity you display on a daily basis, I also lend zero credibility to any post you make. Also you need to work on the grammar in addition to the spelling. As soon as you do those two things, we can get to work on you making sensible posts about sports, instead of your usually idiotic rants.

by Jalakin on Sep 5, 2010 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Tell you what,

Don’t worry about the grammer. It’s just something you like to throw around with regularity to keep your mind off losing. We both know this to be true, but it’s really boring as hell if you really think about it. That’s why I refuse to bring it up when you do it

by GonzoHog on Sep 5, 2010 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually I am already over the loss.

Yes it was bad, but it doesn’t control my life like your hatred seems to control yours. Plus there are some positives from the game that I can glean such as how our offense moved the ball effortlessly when they were not forced to go with an ultra conservative offense. And it is grammar, not “grammer”. I am just trying to help supplement your A) lack of effort at spelling or B) lack of enough education to post with proper English most of the time. I don’t expect your posts to all be correct (nobody can claim this) but at least display a reasonable amount of intelligence and use that newfangled “spell check” gadget that your computer has, this should eliminate most of your mistakes. I just ask that you display some intelligence if you continue to post here.

youve got to be kidding

You’re misspelling words on purpose, aren’t you? Be honest.

If not, pick up a copy of Merriam-Webster’s for Pete’s sake. I’m starting to think you’re just an Ole Miss fan trying to make Arkansas look bad.

dude i cant resist

You’re a lightning rod for verbal abuse. You can’t spell, you can’t even think. You give me no competition. Intellectually you’re Jacksonville State. Unfortunately for you, I’m more like Alabama than Ole Miss and I’m whomping your ass into the Stone Age with one liners and witty rejoinders. It probably says something bad about me, but I could do this all day. I love it. And you keep coming back for more!

by DodgerSandstorm on Sep 6, 2010 12:39 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

dude seriously...

I just looked at your profile and you only make comments on this blog… dude get a life. If you are really an Arkansas fan why make them look so bad? Honestly I’ve never seen a worse college football fan, if you even count as one. I’m not an Ole Miss fan but at least I respect them. I respect Arkansas too… just not you. Now that I think about it.. I know why you don’t comment on any Arkansas blogs… your own kind doesn’t even like you, so you just troll on this blog. Oh and you spelled “philosophy”, “Vandy”, and “enlightening” wrong too… moron.

that nobody has even tried to back you up… there are Arkansas fans posting and even they call you out as being an idiot. Also if you keep calling the guys on this blog “arrogant” why do you keep coming back?. Plus isn’t you calling them arrogant pretty much the kettle calling the pot black?

by dxf04 on Sep 5, 2010 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Did you really just try to spell Vandy with an "l".

If you are going to intentionally misspell it at least do it with an “i”. Otherwise you continue to make yourself appear dumber and dumber.

by Jalakin on Sep 5, 2010 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes I am sure that is it and not the fact that you have consistently proven you have the intelligence of a 6th grader.

I mean even if you were told by someone that Vandy is spelled with an “i”, any reasonably intelligent person would know they were wrong. But as many people have continually tried to point out to you, you lack the ever important intelligence quotient. That or you just simply refuse to apply your intelligence, which is worse. I could understand if you made rational posts to refute others arguments, but you don’t. Instead you see fit to simply spew ridiculous hate.

I actually pity you, I would hate you if you were a little more intelligent and reasonable.

But instead I think your trolling is sad, especially since it has gotten to the point that your own fanbase despises you and other fanbases think you are pathetic. The fact that you seem to take sole enjoyment from your posts is saddening.

by Jalakin on Sep 5, 2010 11:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Really? The entire fanbase routine again?

I think I see now. So what your saying is that even thought you see me as pathetic and talk mucho fucking shit, but can only see it when it’s being directed towards yourself, you just feel sorry for me.

Like I’ve mentioned in the past, your an idiot.

Seriously

Nutt was horrible last year – one of the biggest under achievement coaching jobs in history. He follows it up by opening the season with this debacle. In the past 50 years, Ole Miss football has only been occasionally relevant thanks to the Manning family. Other than that, it’s been a bad joke. Time to either shut down the program or leave the SEC – maybe join Conference USA or Sun Belt.

a relatively intelligent Hog fan's take

Of course by “relatively intelligent”, I mean I know the difference between your and you’re, their and there and they’re, etc. I can also spell enlightening without a spell check, so…

I have to fight the urge say I told you so and bash Nutt because of the “Houston Nutt” chants/taunts at the end of the Hogs-Rebs games the last 2 seasons. Also, because of a particular drunk douche bag who followed us through the Grove last year on the way back to our car taunting us the whole way about how dumb we were to run Nutt off, blah blah blah. I know all fan bases have their(<-see?) douche bags, even Arkansas. I mean, you’ve all met Gonzo, right? All I could say at the time was wait a couple years and your opinion will change. Who knew it would only take the first game of the NEXT sesason. So, yes, I enjoyed seeing Nutt blow that game yesterday like he did so many times here. If you guys still like Nutt, that’s great. You should support you coach no matter what any other team’s fans say. Just like I couldn’t care less how other’s feel about Petrino. He’s a better coach than what we had and he’ll prove it…if he stays long enough. LOL

The thing about Nutt is he’s as likely to beat Bama as he is to lose to Jville St, so it may be too early to write off your season. I just hope you guys like rollercoasters.

by the play on Sep 5, 2010 3:38 PM EDT reply actions

I know how it feels

to have a coach that everyone else says is a moron, needs to be fired, etc. Miles certainly pushes the loyalty of the most purple and gold of us sometimes.

Put the gun back in the drawer. If this season does spiral down and out of control, then sure, fire him. Hell, I don’t like Nutt at all myself, but it’s only one embarrassment. Saban’s first year at LSU was notable for a loss to UAB, Homecoming at that. Anyone who wanted him fired then didn’t have much to say 3 years later.

by artiger on Sep 5, 2010 3:47 PM EDT reply actions

Houston Nutt is not Nick Saban

and UAB sure as shit isn’t Jacksonville State.

Acknowledged,

and I wouldn’t put Nutt (or Miles, or most others) in the same category as Saban, although Jax State ain’t that bad (would you maybe put them in the same category as ULM?).

by artiger on Sep 5, 2010 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Possibly

They are a good FCS team. I have no idea why you would schedule a good FCS team. It looks bad on your schedule either way. The most frustrating thing is that all of the good momentum we had gained has been destroyed. We are back to square one.

4th and 15. 2nd Overtime. Jacksonville State Ball.

by TheBraveDude on Sep 5, 2010 5:22 PM EDT reply actions

Do agree

I hate the cupcake games, for everyone. I like our schedule this year, with two cakes and two good OOC games (although it appears that can bite you in the ass, it almost did for us last night). What bugs me the most about Arkansas is that they proclaim to be the school “for the whole state”, but are unwilling to play any in-state teams, being perfectly content to send money out of the state.

by artiger on Sep 5, 2010 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Who cares where the money goes?

It’s not like it’s goes toward lowering anyone’s taxes. I wasn’t aware we had a responsibility to fund ASU’s athletic dept. They get more money from others, anyways. Auburn and Iowa both paid them in the neighborhood of $1 million. We’re sure as hell not going to pay them that.

by dxf04 on Sep 5, 2010 11:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I never thought I'd say this to an LSU fan, but you're exactly right

Fayetteville has a complete monopoly on collegiate athletics, and they refuse to play anyone in-state for fear of losing it

by Catfish Powe-boy on Sep 6, 2010 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I, for one, wish the Hogs...

would play A State but I can see why they don’t. But ASU can’t say a whole lot. They gave Uof Central Arkansas, and FCS school, a chance to play them. UCA almost beat them and now ASU refuses to play them anymore.

by the play on Sep 6, 2010 4:12 PM EDT up reply actions

No Nutt fan here, BUT...

I grew up in Arkansas hating the Razorbacks, and therefore hating HDN. I was appalled when I heard we had hired him (though I contend he was probably the best available coach we could have hired that year). I have always kept my expectations of him relatively low, and have never once joined in with a “HOUSTON NUTT!” chant.

HOWEVER… I’m tired of people acting like this “blowing games we should win” thing showed up in oxford the day Nutt was hired. Anyone who has been an Ole Miss fan for any kind of extended period of time knows this is something that just haunts our program. There is just something about Ole Miss that makes us capable of both losing to the worst team in the nation or beating the best team in the nation on any given day. Now granted, this is by far the worst team I can remember a Rebel team losing to (at home for God’s sake), but such inconsistency is far from a new trend.

Also, I knew we would lose one of these first 5 games (didn’t see it coming at the hands of JSU). If we can somehow get it together, rally from this debacle, and win our next 4, we’ll still have the 4-1 record I expected us to start with. Sure losing to an FCS team puts a huge damper on the rest of the season, but it doesn’t necessarily ruin it. As an Ole MIss fan, I’m trying to be an optimist for once (does using ‘Ole Miss’ and ‘optimist’ in the same sentence qualify as an oxymoron?)
