OPEN THREAD and NEW OPEN THREAD GUIDELINES

Beautiful. Truly beautiful.

The open threads were an absolute blast last season. It was great for everyone to give their up-to-the-second reports, opinions, and knee-jerk reactions to whatever was happening at the time both on and off the field. I want that to continue this year, but I want it to be a bit more in depth. With the fantastic inventions of smart phones, Wifi, and 3G networks, I expect comments from, frankly, all over and about, frankly, any-damn-thing. So, to get a better sense of community in our comments, promote some sort of consistency, and to get a better idea as to how everyone is spending their gamedays, I would like it if everyone introduced themselves in RCRadio fashion. For example:

This is the Ghost of Jay Cutler checking in to the comments thread from Washington, DC. I'm drinking some champagne right now - an appropriate celebratory drink, dammit - and look to turn to Makers Mark for lunch. I'm gonna grill up some chicken legs for my guests before wandering over to the local Ole Miss watering hole to watch the Rebels embarrass Jacksonville State.

Pretty simple, right? Once we've all introduced ourselves, the jokes, shit-talkin, and wacky image posting can commence. As always, just about anything aside from bigotry and downright trolling is allowed. Keep it pithy, keep it clever, and keep it honest.

Also, if you follow us on Twitter (@RedCupRebellion) and use a smart phone equipped with EchoFon or some other excellent tweeting application, tweet at us throughout the day. Photographs are highly, highly encouraged. The best ones will get re-tweeted, guaranteed.

IT'S GAMEDAY, Y'ALL!

This is Allicolls

Checking in from my couch in Mobile, AL, where I am watching Gameday before going to lunch with my parents and then over to their house to cheer for the Rebels. I will begin consuming beer after lunch, but when I leave my parents’ house to go watch the Auburn/LSU/Bama games, I will switch to drinking Makers Mark with a reckless disregard for the safety of myself and others around me. You better hide yo kids, hide yo wife. Hotty Toddy.

Drinking coffee. Have a various smörgåsbord of beers – some home brew, Stone Ruination, & an Affligen Tripel to name a few to consume throughout the day.

From Orange Beach...

Woke up to the sound of the waves hitting the sand followed shortly by the sounds of Gameday. Can’t wait to watch all the games today, and since there is cable here, I’ll actually get to watch them on a TV as opposed to watching many on my laptop.

Queen HHT, punching the clock from Oktibbeha County.

Choosing to avoid the hordes venturing to Davis-Wade today. I’m spending the day in my home office with my flatscreen and a bottle of Chalet Debonne Grand River Valley “River Blanc” (found the damn corkscrew!). Football-indifferent hubby will be doing yard work.

BTW, a heads-up on a good free stream of the Rebels would be much appreciated. I didn’t get GamePlan and it’s too late to order the game now.

dxf04 - Fayetteville, AR

Resident Arkansas fan, trying to differentiate myself from Gonzohog anyway I can. I’ll be lurking until about 4, when I head to campus to watch the Razorback offense (hopefully) hang 50+ on Tennessee Tech… and hope that defense looks better than last year.
Hoping for an SEC sweep today.

Son, quit being a coward.

Fess up and tell these fine folks who your paw is.

by GonzoHog on Sep 4, 2010 9:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Will you shut up?

While I can appreciate the karmic irony of OM getting “Citadel’d” by Jack Crowe himself, you’re just making us all look bad. Besides, don’t you know how bad this makes the entire league look? Coupled with Florida’s comical struggles with Miami of Ohio, the SEC “mystique” is quickly evaporating this week. I’m not really happy that OM lost, at all.

by dxf04 on Sep 5, 2010 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions

You have a point, dxf04.

Every week a team beats us (not saying it’ll be EVERY week…we do have a bye-week, right?), the media will say “sure, but they beat an Ole Miss team that lost to FCS school Jacksonville State.” This will be a hit to the entire conference’s strength of schedule, making every other OOC game more important.

That’s right…if the SEC doesn’t make it to the BCSNC, y’all can blame US.

Yes, I live in Starkville...WHO did I piss off in a past life?

by Queen Hoka-Hotty-Toddy on Sep 5, 2010 12:32 AM EDT up reply actions

If the SEC gets left out...

There will be more to blame than just one game in week 1.

I went to check out comments on the Yahoo article about this game, expecting to see SEC fans (mostly Arkansas and MSU, with ‘Bama and LSU sprinkled in) talking trash. But, I didn’t see any of that. Instead, it was non-SEC fans talking about how the SEC was “overrated”. I sure don’t want to be stuck with a joke like Ohio St. vs. Boise in the NC. I might not even watch that.

by dxf04 on Sep 5, 2010 1:09 AM EDT up reply actions

You brought me into this discussion, remember? I sure thought I raised you better.

Look, don’t get your little panties in a wad over me just because you happen to fit in with this lunatic crowd .
If you choose to act as if there is something golden about them, fine, but don’t confuse yourself into thinking I have to pucker up and kiss their ass right beside you.

Did anyone else catch the awkward moment on Gameday when Fowler didn't realize Masoli had won the appeal?

And no one else was sure enough to correct him. Herbstreit: mumble think he’s playing mumble mumble. Fowler: It says right here on this piece of paper that he didn’t get the waiver.

Great mix of Nate and Masoli. Nate is the starter until otherwise proven wrong, in my opinion. My only concern has been some of the penetration our Ol has allowed in the running game; can’t do that against SEC teams. Other than that, solid showing. My only hope is Houston doesn’t go easy on his former boss in the second half and make this game look closer than it is.

by DodgerSandstorm on Sep 4, 2010 7:29 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Actually, that isn't true...

…Michigan was ranked #5 at the time and was playing the two-time defending national champion of the FCS division…Losing at home to Jacksonville State—didn’t Florida State (from the ACC) almost lose to them last season?—is just bad all around. It’s just as bad as when Stanford lost to UC Davis back in 2005 (maybe not as bad: Stanford lost 20-17 in regulation, NOT OT, so they were just wretched!).

So, yeah, take heart, it could be much worse.
