Rebel of the Week
Despite the loss, a few Rebels had some nice days against Vanderbilt. For one, Enrique "The Rubber Mallet" Davis received six fewer carries against Vanderbilt than he did against Tulane. If he can carry this trend into the Fresno State game, it could really give our offense a boost. He ran for 19 yards.* Jeremiah Masoli passed (19-35-2) for 190 and ran 19 times for 104 yards. Brandon Bolden, deftly attempting to recreate the Dexter McCluster late-season heroic mojo, continued his plan of being ignored in the offense to the tune of 10 rushes for 46 yards.** Tyler Campbell averaged 44 yards on 7 punts. D.T. Shackelford had six total tackles, including 2.5 in the backfield. Jonathan Cornell led the team in tackles, took one behind the line, and broke up a pass.
*He sucks.
**Also caught two balls for 22 yards. Also dropped one ball for 7 points.

Glad Masoli is getting some love.
He single-handedly extended many plays that were immediately broken thanks to our porous line – seriously, I could get a dump truck through some of those holes. I appreciate what he is doing for us despite the turnovers, which I would argue come from his transition to the SEC. Our defenses – yes even Vanderbilt’s – are simply much faster than anything he saw out west, so he is learning that he cannot outrun everyone like he did before and that the CBs are going to be much quicker at jumping routes. I don’t mind that he has to learn those things. It’s good for him (he becomes a better player) and it’s good for us (we did not have to suffer through 10 sacks and 5 interceptions from hurried passes and tipped balls last weekend). I think he will help us pull an upset this year, even though every win is an upset at this point. Look at Arkansas; I think you’re ripe for it.
All of that being said, I have a man crush on DT, so I voted for him.
I'm a Rebel, but I bleed the cherry and silver of the Lobos.
Tyler Campbell should not be on the list.
He kicked a 65 yarder into the endzone. I know that’s a net of 45, but seriously everytime he was within range of the endzone but once, he kicked it through. When he wasn’t in range of the endzone he kicked a 39 yard shank.

I agree.
I just looked over him entirely when I was reading this the first time, but Tyler sucks. It wasn’t even that he was getting close to where we needed it, he was kicking those things so that they landed 8 yards deep into the end zone. We never had a chance to down it inside the 20. Punt averages are overrated unless you are battling for field position. We were not, we were just coming up short around the 50.

DT Shackleford gets my vote
For looking more like he gave a shit than any of the other defensive players. No offense to Masoli or anyone else, but Shackleford stood out to me.

I voted DT as well.
He was one of the few who actually came to play on the defense. I’m glad he’s got the right attitude.

Jonathan Cornell
He had the most tackles, and except for DT Shacklerford, seemed to be the only player who really showed up to play Saturday.
Enrique
You know… it surprised me to see his name drug through the black pellets drummed up from running on the astro play turf in VH. I for one am getting tired of Bolden running to the line and stopping before he gets hit. His freshman year he was a beast. Last year he started this stopping prior to getting hit crap. It’s continued and is really a shame ‘cause the guy is a beast. We are really week and if we’re going to run Neat, it needs to be outside the… cough, gag, gag, cough… tackles. We’re not good, that’s a tough pill to swallow but I have hope for some reason. Probably becasue I’m not giving in to this crap season just yet… we’re not even to October.
I don't know quite what you mean by this post.
Brandon Bolden has averaged 5.4 yards a rush and 13.1 yards a reception. Whereas Enrique Davis has only averaged 3 yards a rush and 16 yards a reception (with only 1 reception). That is a huge difference in rushing yards per carry especially considering that Enrique has 39 carries for only 118 yards, but Bolden only has 34 carries in which he has racked up 182 yards. To me this means that Bolden is a lot better running back than Davis. Maybe he can improve, but at this point all I am seeing is that he isn’t as aggressive as Bolden has been. Personally as long as Bolden keeps producing at the rate he has, despite poor blocking by the line, I will be fairly happy. If Davis can step up to that level I will be even happier, but until then I would like to see Bolden get a greater number of the carries.
