Gonzo will be upset about this
This is Kirk Herbstreit's preview article for the upcoming college football season. He hands out awards (that he cleverly calls "the Herbies") for various categories like undervalued teams, players poised to have a breakout season, etc. Our Rebels picked up five different awards. Masoli was ranked #4 for most explosive player, Bolden was #5 for players ready to take it up a level, our Rebels squad was #5 for most undervalued teams, and HDN took home two awards: #6 in candid coaches and #4 in underrated coaches. I am sure Arkansas fans let out a collective groan while reading the underrated coaches section, and somewhere Gonzohog is plotting how he can murder someone who would heap praise upon ole Houston Nutt.
You can check out the article in its entirety here: Herbies
It is nice to see some of our guys getting praise. I saw a couple Oregon games last year, and Masoli is definitely exciting. Nutt is certainly candid, and I would agree that he is often undervalued (especially with the recruiting class he is putting together). I also think it is fair to say our team is undervalued- in today's links, Ghost posted two other blogger's predictions for our upcoming season. One guy pegged us at 6-6, another had us at 7-5. I would be disappointed with either. Hopefully I am not drinking the kool-aid, but I think we have an easy enough schedule to get to 8-4 barring injuries. The one thing I don't quite understand is the Brandon Bolden selection as a guy ready to take it up a notch. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice guy and not a bad player by any means. I was, however, very underwhelmed with his performance last season. Maybe it was the added weight, maybe it was playcalling, maybe it was the fact that Jevan sucked, but it seemed like he was a lot more sluggish and slow than this freshman year. Hopefully it was just a bad year (and perhaps McCluster took carries away from him more than Bolden just gave them up because he was struggling). At any rate, if he does take it to the next level this year, we could have a special season.

Arkansas will feel our pain from last year. Pencil them in for four losses.
that D was atrocius last year, and in all likelihood, will be again. book it.
Considering your team was ranked in the top 5 pre-season poll,
compared to #17 for the Hogs, your logic dictates the usual.
Expectations are something Bobby Petrino doesn’t shy away from, as any great coach would not be.
Well, he doesn't have to worry about that at arkansas...
your expectations should be back to back liberty bowls!
We weren't a top-five preseason team.
Most of our detractors have very, very short memories. I cannot count how many times I’ve heard “HA Y’ALL WERE PRESEASON NUMBER FOUR AND LOST THEM GAMES!!!”
We were preseason #10. We finished somewhere around #20 (21 maybe?). That’s certainly a fall from grace, but hardly the meteoric collapse you’re suggesting.

Yes, you are so right, Mr. Casper.
Pardon me. What I should have said is that after being pre-season ranked #10, your heros then held hands, skipped to the #4 position like Goldie Locks and the 3 cubs, after eating a couple of creampuffs, before experiencing their meteoric collapse.
4……….Not ranked at all…..20 Do the math.
And where did your oh-so-spectacular team end up ranked?
Oh that’s right they weren’t and you lost to us for the second year in a row. It must hurt to be beat by a team that you view as poorly as ours 2 years in a row.
I've always said Nutt get's a two year pass when he changes jobs.
I’ve also said many times Petrino was starting over from scratch.
That means he was dealt a bad hand, knew it, didn’t care, wasn’t afraid of it, and took the job anyway.
This is a characteristic of confidence and professionalism your head coach does not possess, nor will he ever. He always has to slide into a good situation.
But then again, there’s a reason he’ll never make the bucks of a Petrino salary.
It’s year 3 now, no more excuses for this guy’s team. I garantee you, you won’t be able to say the same thing about Nutt’s team at season’s end.
Well your standards are ridiculous, Gonzo.
Nutt gets a two year pass, arbitrarily, while you skew facts to convince yourself that Petrino was starting over from scratch (that’s just ridiculous and you know it).
And I’ve never once said that Houston Nutt possesses some sort of “professionalism,” but to suggest that Petrino does is a hell of a reach.

I have a feeling that "two year pass"
has stretched from “sucking immediately” to “one year pass” to the current “two year pass.” So it looks like Nutt gets passes until Arkansas manages to finally beat us. Petrino was demonstrating bravery when he left the Falcons to take over the Hogs? Maybe in terms of geographic location, sure, but he was running away from the Atlanta fiasco. Arkansas was the best place he could land, which really says something about him. Yes, we were definitely ranked too high last season. Although, we were coming off a beating of Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. Ya’ll are coming off a 3 point win, in overtime, over East Carolina. A Conference USA team. Instead of obsessing over Nutt, you should be worrying about the UTEP game on November 13th. It seems Petrino and Co. has difficulties competing with that conference. And hey, guess what? UTEP even has their own SBNation blog. So why don’t you go troll their site? Our recent conspiracy theorist visitor has more credibility than you.

Bobby Petrino knew he was in over his head in Atlanta.
Thats why he tucked his tail and ran. Ask those falcons players how much confidence and professionalism that coward posseses.
Right
It’s baffling to me how Gonzo and other Arkansas fans can convince themselves otherwise. They are bewildered and angry when they realize that no one else sees it their way. The thing is, I couldn’t care less about Bobby Petrino, or even Arkansas for that matter. It’s the crazy Arkansas trolls, like fuckhead here, that has made me loathe that team.

It must be football season.
So far today, I have read comments from Gonzo stating that Bobby Petrino is a great coach, and that they will be winning a national championship. Although, to his credit, he claimed he didn’t necessarily mean next year. I’ve only been to Arkansas once, that I can recall, which was on my way to Missouri. If Gonzo is a fair representation of the citizens of Arkansas, I think it will be a long time before I go back.
