Rebel Roundup - 07/23/10

SEC Media Days: Schedule For Day Three | Rocky Top Talk
Coach Nutt, Jerrell Powe, Kentrell Lockett, and Bradley Sowell all take the podium today. One Man To Beat will give a report post conference and you, yes you, can watch it live on the SEC Video Widget below.

Quarterback Cotton talking transfer | The Clarion-Ledger
Yesterday's great scuttlebutt as covered by Brandt:

UM coach Houston Nutt confirmed the redshirt freshman was telling teammates that he planned on transferring after the summer semester. But as of Thursday night, he hoped to convince the quarterback to stay on campus. "Obviously, we think he can be a part of our offense this fall," Nutt said. "It's not over yet. We'd like him to stay with us." Cotton, who was one of the most prized prospects in the 2009 recruiting class, has battled a sore throwing shoulder since last spring, when a small tear in his shoulder was revealed.

I just don't get it and, maybe, neither does Ray Cotton. You're a freshman, Ray. You can't expect that much SEC playing time. You just can't. His parents are also apparently really urging to stay so, when that's considered, I'd wager he's not leaving.

SEC Media Predictions Are In | MrSEC.com
This is odd. Ole Miss is picked to finish last in the SEC West while State is picked to finish fifth. Ole Miss does, however, have three votes to win the SEC West and, get this, two votes to win the SEC Championship! State, on the other hand, has zero of either. How?! Whose votes are those?

My guess, State and Arkansas reporters. Buildin' up those expectations so Old Piss can fall, huh? How Machiavellian of them.

Media All-SEC team

Powe and Lockett made SEC media’s All-SEC 1st and 2nd teams respectively.

Also, in the MrSEC’s media predictions article, Vandy got a vote for the east…

B.S.

So Bradley Sowell is going to SEC media days and is going to field questions from the podium?

Hmmm….here’s a question – Bradley, are you going to suck as bad as you did last year?

After his dismal perforance against South Carolina, Sowell really got it together. To say he sucked all year is just not accurate.

Y'all removed the SEC widget, remember?

it is no where to be found now that it is relevant and not just auto-playing highlights of the Arky game from last year.

No worries, I can go to the sec webpage

Nutt has to be loving the last place vote.

This year has “Coach of the year” written all over it. All he has to do is beat the teams we should, and pull one big upset and the Legend of Hootie grows.

The man loves to be an underdog. Nowhere to go but up from here.

Our boys

did really well in my opinion. I like the way Nutt handles himself when dealing with the media. I just think if Miles, Mullen, Kiffin (especially Kiffin), or maybe Spurrier was our coach, I would have a sickening feeling everytime we had a press conference.

I am know I am in the minority BUT...

Give Sowell a break, it is a lot to ask any freshmen, much less an o-lineman ( the hardest position outside of QB) ,to start in the SEC and have to go against ALL- SEC players like SC’s Norwood and other upperclassmen with more experience. I remember kids like Metcalf, Vincent, Wade, etc who struggled at first and got better with time. I think people just got spoiled with Oher, who is a once in a decade o lineman.
I don’t know how many schools recruited Sowell, but he will be better due to experience, coaching, and time in the weight room.

I was very impressed with him during his Interview

He appears to have matured quite well. I think he will be improved this year. He does have good size. I just hope he has learned about better handling himself in front of the media, so we don’t get more of his famous quotes from last year. That being said I was impressed with all of our players in their interviews.

...and the QB drama continues

east of NW Arkansas. Now who would’ve ever thought that could happen?

I know....

players leaving because they weren’t going to get playing time only happens to Houston Nutt.
