Rebel Roundup - 6/2/10 - Lunchtime Links

Not to Brag or Nothin...
But I think the blog's been on fire this week (thanks mostly to BWE). I don't know why, but I'm somehow excited about our upcoming losses in a regional now. Wierd.

Dexter McCluster Explodes a Cleat | Chiefs Video Gallery
In the Chiefs' practice yesterday, Da Lil Bastid juked hard enough to rip the insole of his left cleat. I'm not kidding. Check the video to hear him talk about the practice, the play, and his excitement to play alongside Kendrick Lewis (who got a ton of reps at safety in practice, apparently) and Eric Berry.

Big East Champion St. John’s to Face Ole Miss in College World Series Opener | NYMag.com
Do not take St. John's lightly. They're Big East Champs who took two-of-three from Louisville earlier this season. I will say though, it says a lot about the weakness of your conference if you're a three-seed in a nationally-seeded regional after winning your conference's championship. Sheesh, Big East. Also, folks in New York apparently don't know dick about college baseball in that they're calling a regional a "College World Series Opener."

The SEC's most irreplaceable players | SEC Blog - ESPN
For the Rebs, it's Kentrell Lockett. Chris Low thinks we're as deep as any team in the country at defensive tackle (we're deep but I don't know about being that deep) and should really look more to 'Lock to be the critical playmaker along the line. Let's hope. I really feel that we're going to need Kentrell to make some clutch plays this season if we're going to win more than 5 or 6 games.

There are times when I say stupid things like

“I’d just assume the season be over if we can’t host.”

But when it comes down to it, being in the post-season mix is exciting no matter where the team plays. I was done with Ole Miss baseball after the Arkansas/Bama/Auburn serieseses, but as soon as things cranked up in Hoover, I was ready to watch the games. Even more ready this week.

I feel sorry for the faction of Ole Miss Spirit subscribers who can’t seem to let go of how we ended the regular season. That’s in the past now. And, while I know damn well we’ll likely be done after this weekend, there’s still that litte part of me that says “all we’ve got to do is get hot at the plate” or “we just need to be better than UVA for two games”.

I won’t be surprised in the least to see the Heels win the Norman Regional. If we are able to put something together this weekend and will ourselves to victory, it’s not far fetched at all to think we could possibly be gearing up for yet another Oxford Super a week from now.

See how easy it is to get sucked in by this tournament shit?

"To watch a crowd of over 10,000 bouncing during the ‘Love Is Gone’ song was amazing," said Virginia catcher Franco Valdes. "It was nuts. Now, they get to experience baseball here and experience what this fan base can be like.

"It is going to be awesome to have Ole Miss here and see what our fans can do."

Dexter McCluster

I continue to be impressed with him. Don’t think I ever appreciated how smart and completely un-angry the guy is. He’ll be a fan favorite in KC.

I also think he definitely has a future after his playing days are done as a coach or as a television contributor.

...Or they could be referring to St. John's opening game...

As in “St. John’s to Face Ole Miss in Their CWS Opener”

Because, you know, in headline writing you don’t always use pronouns. Just sayin’.

Anything can happen in baseball...

But we are Ole Miss and when have we ever gotten hot at the right time? 40 years of mediocrity and not once can I remember getting hot a the right time.

We may Rise Up on occasions but we never stay hot.

Last year’s football team is a perfect example of our up and down ways. Granted, the Jevan Snead syndrome should be taken into account, but if it’s not a player it’s a coach that does the God awfullest thing that leaves us looking like the Rebels everyone has grown accustom to.

I’ll be in Virginia, hope to see some Rebels while I’m there. I hope to see our team get hot and play well.

This probably should be on the UT blog,

But I just moved from some apartments where I lived next to Eric Berry’s cousin. She says that he’s loving playing with the Chiefs and that he has mad respect for Da Lil Bastid. I don’t know if she was making it up since she saw my OM shirt, but it at least bears repeating.
