SEC sources have informed me that Texas A&M and Virginia Tech will be joining the SEC.
Scott Van Pelt And no, it's not an exact quote. I didn't hear it on ESPN radio. Someone else did.

I'll believe it when I see it
Because a TV station is reporting Oklahoma trying to get into SEC and Texas A&M along with Texas to Big Ten.

Who knows what the hell's going on but
I think I’d go with Van Pelt’s sources over some TV sports reporter. Just saying.
VTech and A&M
I’m not sure why we’re poaching kind of second tier teams from the ACC and Big 12. On one hand, yeah, it’s not like teams in the SEC need to run an even more brutal gauntlet in order to make it out alive, but on the other hand, isn’t one of the main points of expansion getting significantly better? If the Big 12 is, indeed, on its last legs, and the departure of Colorado and A&M would seem to be demonstrative of that fact, Oklahoma and Texas will need a new home. Why not make a play for one of them and make the SEC unquestionably THE premier college football conference in the country?
As to V-Tech, I’ve been hearing they’re a good “cultural” fit for the SEC, but why more so than FSU or Georgia Tech? Both are football/baseball schools with strong followings and natural rivals in the SEC East. Hell, The U seems to make just as much sense as V-Tech,,though, I know, it’s private and Miami’s not “The South”, but they’ve again got natural rivalries in the division, they’re a strong baseball/football school, and it’d give us a chance to hit up South Beach instead of Blacksburg every couple of seasons.
It's all about the eyeballs
VT and A&M are good because the SEC does not cover those TV markets yet. With A&M, you’re getting a whole lot of new viewers in Texas, and the same goes for VT in Virginia (including the DC/NoVa market).
Markets
Wouldn’t we be getting new markets by adding UT or OU instead of A&M? We also do not have a South Florida presence at this point.
Maybe not everyone wants to join the SEC
Sorry to ruin the party, but we don’t just get the pick of the litter. If the Texas A&M rumor is true, I think the chances of Texas following suit does go up a lot, but UT, A&M, and OU all give similar markets. Sure, UT and OU are bigger on the national scene, but when you’re talking about TV markets you just need enough fan following in the market to make the networks think it’s worth televising there. A&M has a huge fanbase in all the major Texas markets, just as UT does.
Pray, do tell, how is that inaccurate?
An ag school obsessed with their liberal arts “University of [STATE]” counterpart, a weird military tradition, lame college towns, Jackie fucking Sherrill, a dog mascot, football ineptitude, band smack, maroon, white.
Texas A&M is a gigantic Mississippi State with a more raucous and dedicated football amosphere. That’s it and that’s all.

Fair Enough, I Went A Bit Far
2 ACC football titles since ‘04 is a pretty good stretch, and they’ve gone .500 (I think) against the Florida based ACC schools in that same time period. I’d wager that Miami and/or FSU have had stronger baseball programs during the same time period, but I have to do the online research to confirm that…
Not quite
It’s 3 ACC titles, constantly finishing in the top 10.
VT also completely destroyed Tennessee in the bowl game and scored more points on Alabama than any other team in the nation (did much better than Florida or Texas).
Not to act like Tech is wonderful or anything, but they’ve also led the series against Miami dating back to 1995 (when they really become competitive nationally) and have been the most consistent program in the ACC since joining in 2004. I understand that it’s the ACC and the Hokies would go 8-4 every year in the SEC, but it’s still a major conference.
Tech, along with Texas is the only FBS program to win at least ten games in each of the past six seasons and has the highest rated defense in the nation since 2004 (with five top-ten finishes). They have the third-winningest active coach in the NCAA and a seventeen-year bowl streak going. Not only do they have a stable program but a succession plan (Bud Foster) in place for Beamer’s impending retirement. They also open up markets in the Tidewater region in VA, which has been underrated in all of this discussion. The ‘757’ actually houses some of the best talent in the country, even if it’s a relatively small recruiting pool in comparison to FL, TX, and CA. Guys like the Vicks, Bruce Smith, Aaron Brooks, Percy Harvin all came from that region. It would be pretty beneficial move for the SEC in my opinion. As for Tech? I’m still on the fence on whether it’s a good long-term decision for them to leave the ACC. Win ten games and have BCS trip every season with a new (strong) TV contract or go 7-5 or 8-4 in a ridiculously strong SEC…

Love my Hokies, Caps, Redskins, Wizards and Nats.
Hot Pockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VA tech
would do better than 7-5 regularly.

Up is down.
Down is up.
Cats and dogs playing together.
Along with expansion
It seems that they’re going to have to change the conference names as well. How is Colorado considered a Pacific state? Though that’s a minor thing…
I’m hiding in a cellar behind my house until all of the dust settles from the expansion wars.
Chip Brown, dude who's been right on all of this since he broke the original pac-16 rumor
Is now corroborating the SEC’s push for A&M.

Now the report
is Texas A&M to SEC. Also that SEC promised Texas it would move 2 SEC West teams to SEC East to make room for Texas and Texas A&M in the SEC West.
I’ve had enough of this for one day. Whichever is going whereever, do it quickly. No need in waiting for Nebraska to make their decision.

I saw earlier this week
that Texas and Texas A&M have met and agreed to go together. To get one, you have to get both. That was on ESPN when this whole thing started with Nebraska
UT and TAMU met yesterday
to talk things over. According to the guy who runs the A&M rivals site on Bo Bound’s show this morning, the TAMU administration wants to go PAC10 b/c of the implication that the SEC doesn’t care about academics but a faction of the Regents, led by Gene Stallings, is lobbying for the SEC b/c it is a better cultural fit. As for the fanbase, they are overwhelmingly pro-SEC b/c of the cultural thing and the desire to get out of the shadow of UT. Small power struggle.

Screw both Texas schools
Don’t want to see the SEC used as a pawn in their “what can we get out of this” games. If the PAC-10 goes to PAC-16, the SEC needs to find 4 new schools. I say go with Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and just to go on and shock everyone, go with Missouri. If we just HAVE to have a Texas school, I’d rather Texas Tech than A&M or Texas. Hell let’s just make the announcement this coming Tuesday and call it TECH TUESDAY… where we announce Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech and Louisiana Tech as new members of the SEC.

He must've missed the cotton bowl with Texas tech.
Let TTU go to the Pac-whatever or stay in the big 12 or whatever. We’ll just continue to kick their asses in bowl games and NIT basketball.
Why is it, that now that this discussion is FINALLY taking place...
Nobody wants Clemson anymore?
"HOT BOUDIN! COOOOOLD COUS COUS, COME ON TIGAHS, PUSH PUSH PUSH!"
I still do.
Culturally, they’re the most SEC-like of any non-SEC institution.
