Rebel Roundup - 4/6/10 - What a March we've had.
I Hope Y'all Saw That
Last night was truly a spectacle of college athletics. And, really, all March has been fantastic for basketball. Even though our Rebs were one of the last teams out (FINAL FOUR NIT WHAT?), this year's edition of the NCAA tournament was even more impossible to ignore than ever--if not, at the very least, more exciting than the last two ueber-predictable tourneys. I have pretty mixed feelings about last night's outcome; the bad guys won, but...
...I'm a Winner
Both the NAFOOM Squares game and RCR Bracket Challenge (OMG PPL'S REAL NAMES) were won by yours truly. I guess the six-pack of beer I promised the winner of the RCR game goes to none other than me. Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA, come on down.
Notebook: Rebels seek pitching fix to arrest Sunday slump | The Clarion-Ledger
While a more solid presence on the mound would certainly ease our Sunday woes, the solution isn't that simple. Overall, our team plays down on Sunday. The pitching is sub-par, the bats are cold, the fielding is lazy, and the baserunning is stupid. I don't know how one fixes such an epidemic of baseball FAIL, but that's why I'm not a coach.
Tuesday Morning Update | NEMS360
According to Parrish Alford, Rebel Guard and Chief Mischeif Maker Rishaw Johnson is looking good. The offensive line as a whole though, is leaving much to be desired. Of course, spring practice is rarely an indicator of what is to come this fall so let's not get too worried just yet.
Rebels Drop to #15 | Baseball America
After dropping the series to the conference's worst team, the Rebels slipped four places down to number 15. Elsewhere in the SEC, LSU is #5, Florida #8, Arkansas #10, South Carolina #11, Vanderbilt #20, and Alabama #24. Yes, seven of the twelve SEC teams are ranked right now.

Rishaw has been looking good in practice...
….he destroyed Powe in a round of Bull-in-the-ring early on this spring.
It doesn't matter where or how many SEC teams are ranked.
We should all tremble in fear of mighty Georgia Tech and Florida State. Unlike the Cubs, those guys really, REALLY mean it this year.
One Shining Moment
Whoever the hump was that decided to let Jennifer Hudson sing One Shining Moment should be without employment this morning. That was an absolute disgrace to the song and to Luther and Teddy. One of the most exciting tournaments ever and the number of highlights was reduced to include the cutaways to her in the recording studio with the comical diva hand motions.
With the ridiculous expansion coming for next season, 2010 was the last tournament as we know it and the final takeaway for everyone watching was that talentless diva-wannabe ruining One Shining Moment. Well played CBS. Well played.

Get ready...
a 5-7, possibly 6-6 season, (if your lucky) looms large for a “heavy on the run – pass very little” oriented offense.
This is Nutt football at it’s best. HDN-M. Markeson running the show, just like the good ole days.
The defense could be pretty salty again, but with a lot of inconsistansy/3and outs by the run-run-run attack, they’ll more than likely be toast by the 4th qr.
If the regression of Jevon Snead in this joke for an offensive system didn’t prove the point I made over 1 1/2 years ago about Mr. Giggity, nothing will. It’s only going to get worse.
Bigtime recruits will begin to see this trend starting this coming season. Nutt will be exposed, probably recieve one more year, then leave for the Kansas Sts/Baylors/Iowa Sts of the world. Mark it down.

A triumphant return.
As I started reading that comment, I thought it was another pessimistic Ole Miss fan lamenting our probable results next year. Then there was the mix up of “your” and “you’re”. I didn’t want to get too excited. Could it be? I kept reading. A confused “it’s”, a misspelled coach name. My God, that’s GonzHog’s music!
A misspelling of “inconsistency” and “QB KILLA JEVON” talk confirmed it. Yes. Our old friend.
There’s the guy we know and love. I knew you couldn’t stay away, Gonzo. Man, I miss football season.
Also, I’m popping my RCR posting cherry after 1.5 years of reading.
Well, well, well...
I was disappointed that you did not even post to accept your “lifetime achievement award.” Nice to have you back.
Also, I think that Ole Miss fans would agree with you on the record thing.

probably to the dustbin of irrelevant SEC coaches past.
Bobby, meet Danny Ford, Mike Shula, Ron Zook, and Ray Goff.
People can talk about how good Arkansas will be this year or next year or whatever, but I’ll tell you one thing and Gonzo can mark it down:
Arkansas will be very average until they make a serious committment to Defense.
As long as we're doing this
I think we’re all at least a little worried that your first paragraph is right.
Hell, I’m expecting to have a bad season (by Houston Nutt standards). I worry about the quarterbacks and the halfbacks.
But the fact of the matter is that he has done a good job of getting the team on a winning track. Maybe he’ll derail that track. I don’t know. He appears to have brought in some good recruits in the past two seasons, and it will take time for those to develop. At Ole Miss, if 6-6 is the worst he does, I’ll be so, so happy.

You're damn right.
If 6-6 is the worst we do under Nutt, that will be just fine by me as well. I guess the point I’m trying to make is, that unlike the overzealous Arkansas fans, I completely realize our limitations. I think that most of our fan base does as well. I said most.
Gonzo!!! Good to see you. I guess you’ve come out of hibernation for the spring.

I'm thinking about creating a ton of accounts...
Just so that I can rec this a million times.
"HOT BOUDIN! COOOOOLD COUS COUS, COME ON TIGAHS, PUSH PUSH PUSH!"
Mark this down also...
Arkansas will improve on defense and STs this season. They won’t meet SEC elite standards by any means, but somewhere closer to middle of the pack
As good as their offense could be, combined with a more favorable schedual, (that should sound a bit familiar) a 9-3 overall record is very attainable. 10-2 not likely, but still reachable.
As for Coach Bobby Petrino’s future, he’ll stick around at least 1 more year, embarrass the hell out of your goofball head coach in Oxford, then head back to Northwest Arkansas with a big ole shit eatin grin on his face.
Christopher Martin Gonzalez
So how do you explain away the fact....
that he got out recruited for the best players in arkansas? That’s one of the reasons you ran Nutt off, wasn’t it?
Out recruited?
Listen, Micheal Dyer was the ONLY in-state recruit CBP really went after early on in the recruiting process that got away.
The UofA currently has 4 good RBs Petrino is very happy with. (D. Johnson, R. Wingo, N. Davis and B. Green) CBP doesn’t need Dyer, regardless of his ranking. Auburn fits his needs better than we do.
As far as the other in-staters go, I have no clue what you’re talking about.
Perhaps in years past, HDN would have gone after some of these kids a little more aggressively than Petrino does. that could be reason to believe Petrino isn’t actually afraid to coach up players with athletic potential, combined with character, integrity and a commitment to the classroom, not just the kids who may have impressed the so-called recruiting experts with their play on the field, but seem to always have some other kind of issues lingering over them.
Petrino’s personality doesn’t cater to self-deluted, show-boating dramatizers. That’s why Dyer didn’t like him.
Christopher Martin Gonzalez
Well congratulations.
I’m glad your coach is so great, because you are going to need an all-world coach. You just hauled in the 10th best recruiting class in the league (according to rivals), better than only Vandy and Kentucky. Sou how long are you going to put up with those types onf results on the recruiting trail?
Yeah.
I think 8-9 regular season wins is about right.
