Apparently a bit of a mini-meme is budding on LSU sites (ATVS for one, Tiger Droppings for another) criticizing our Rebels for "dogpiling" after Kevin Mort's walk-off single to secure last weekend's sweep over the Tigers. Nevermind for a moment what such an action would suggest about the state of LSU's program as the reigning College World Series title holders and perhaps the most dominant program of all time. Nevermind the obvious importance of the game to a ballclub fighting to be in the mix for the SEC West crown. Nevermind what this game means for the fans or the players. Do mind, however, the video. Is that a dogpile? No. It's a celebration for a walk-off hit. Mort (or somebody) obviously fell and obviously knocked a few folks down which, in turn, obviously hurt Matt Snyder's porcelain soulders (which becomes even more obvious once you see how still and lifeless the celebration becomes after the tumble). To cement my point, I Google Image searched "Walk Off Home Run"--yes, Mort hit a single, I know. I then did the same for "Baseball Dogpile". Now, tell me, which one of those were our Rebels engaging in? For a school with, what, seven College World Series titles, you'd think they'd be able to tell the fucking difference between a walkoff celebration and a dogpile. Every bit of this ado they're raising reeks of bitterness and the (as PodKATT put it) sinking feeling one gets when things don't turn out as one had expected.
