Are You Ready?

A few words of football inspiration passed along to me by a long-time friend of the Rebels, below the jump. Hotty Toddy!

"The boys we get from out of state can go home and never hear about Ole Miss Football. But, in Mississippi the game is talked about all year round. We like to get Mississippi boys, boys who love Ole Miss and want to win for her."

- John Vaught

"Football is not a game but a religion, a metaphysical island of fundamental truth in a highly verbalized, disguised society, a throwback of 30,000 generations of anthropological time."

- Arnold Mandell (former NFL team psychiatrist)

"It was hot, man it was hot. It was killing them. They [Notre Dame] were all cramping, throwing up out there. We were cramping and throwing up too, but at least we were making it to the sidelines to do it."

- Randy White,  OM offensive lineman and team captain, on the Sept. 17, 1977 OM-ND game

"Kicking is very important in football. In fact, some of the more enthusiastic players even kick the ball, occasionally."

- Alfred Hitchcock

"And I just want to say one thing . . . to the fans and everybody in Gator Nation, I’m sorry. I’m extremely sorry. We were hoping for an undefeated season, that was my goal, something Florida has never done here. ..."

- Tim Tebow [and you know where, when & why he made "the promise" that follows this apology!]

"91 percent of the country picked Texas Tech. We just looked at that. We felt disrespected and we came out fighting. And we showed up and I guess they didn't."

- Michael Oher

"In Round 1 of the SEC vs. the Big 12, now known nationally as the Flag Football League, Texas Tech did nothing against Ole Miss to dispel the national perception that Big 12 teams couldn't stop their mail, much less an ambulatory offense."

- Dallas Morning News, Jan. 2, 2009

"I'm a fundamentalist," Vaught says. "I believe in perfection of execution, in the blocking and tackling angles of the game." Signs spotted around his office spell out his football philosophy: "Put 'em on the ground!"

- Time Magazine on Coach Vaught , November 28, 1960

"Gentlemen, it is better to have died a small boy than to fumble this football."

- Bear Bryant

"There’s only so much you can do against your own teammates, there’s a limit. But there’s no limit against Memphis."

- Kentrell Lockett, DE (6'5, 254), Game Week 1, 2009

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence. "

 - Vince Lombardi

"Home is where the heart is, and that's Oxford. I never expect to leave."

- John Vaught
